🚛🔥 Wicked Wheels Wednesday: Meet John Uttley, Our Transport Manager!

This week, we're shining the spotlight on John Uttley, whose journey from driver to Transport Manager is a brilliant example of experience, determination and a willingness to keep learning. 👏

🏗️ From Driver to Transport Manager
John first joined JC Gillespie as a driver back in 2007, gaining years of valuable hands-on experience in the heavy haulage and lifting industry. As a Driver/HIAB Operator, John transported containers, moved small plant and carried out a wide range of lifting operations. During his time with us, he also saw our lifting capabilities develop, from the 2100 Fassi crane to the larger Fassi 660 and PM65 crane lorries we operate today. Although John moved on in October 2015, he never really lost touch. Whenever he was passing, he'd pop in for a catch-up, see how everyone was getting on and share his familiar friendly smile. 😊

🎓 Investing in His Future
After leaving JC Gillespie, John wasn't entirely sure what his next move would be. Rather than stand still, he decided to invest in his future by studying for his International Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Transport Haulage. Exactly 12 months later, in October 2024, he achieved his qualification! 🎓👏 It was a fantastic achievement that demonstrated his commitment to developing his knowledge and taking the next step in his transport career.

🚛 Back with the Team
In June 2025, John returned to JC Gillespie as Transport Coordinator. Bringing together his years of driving experience and his newly gained qualification, John was ready to take on a new challenge. His enthusiasm, hard work and willingness to learn helped him progress, and in September 2026, he became our Transport Manager. 📋💪

If you know John, you'll know he's never one to sit still! He's always keen to get involved, happy to lend a hand and just as willing to learn from others as he is to share his own knowledge and experience. His practical understanding of life on the road, combined with his transport management knowledge, gives him valuable insight into the operation and the people who keep it running.

❤️ A Journey We're Proud Of
From joining us as a driver in 2007 to returning in a management role, John's story shows what can happen when experience is matched with ambition and a determination to keep moving forward. We're delighted to have John back as part of the JC Gillespie team and look forward to seeing him continue to develop in his role.

Some people leave a job, but never lose the connection. John is certainly one of them! 👏

This week, we’re putting the spotlight on one of our long-serving drivers, William Burnop 4️⃣ years he has been with us this month👏

Will has recently been handed the 🔑 to our latest addition to the fleet — a Scania XT fitted with a Fassi 545T/M Hiab, boasting an impressive 10.5-tonne payload. West Pennine Trucks Ltd 💪

It’s fair to say Will has been waiting patiently for this one… nearly a year in fact! 😅 And now he’s finally got his hands on it, he’s hit the ground running.

This is a serious bit of kit, and it’s in very capable hands. Will’s experience, professionalism and commitment make him a perfect fit for the new truck, and we’re delighted to see him putting it through its paces.

So, please be careful out there, Will! 😉 And thank you for all your hard work, loyalty and commitment over the years — it’s drivers like you who keep us moving forward.

Fineturret Ltd has been a valued customer of ours for an incredible 28 YEARS! 🤝

Over those 28 years, we’ve worked together on all kinds of jobs and movements, seeing both companies grow, change and overcome plenty of challenges along the way. And after nearly three decades, we’re still putting the wheels in motion together!

Last weekend we successfully carried out the removal of a walkway bridge at a Hospital in Chester with Freeley Demolition.

The project was the result of months of careful planning by Sean Freeley and his team at J.Freeley Ltd, combined with the skill and professionalism of our driver Mark Lomas and steerman Ian Brownhill "Piranha"

Throwback Thursday- Today we pay a little respect to an old workhorse W93 PPG

Photos are our now Transport Manager John Uttley where he cut his teeth as a young man, in one of the photos is his Nephew - Kenton who is sadly not with us anymore but he loved this truck, and he would have been celebrating his 15th Birthday tomorrow 🪽

There wasn’t much that truck could not do and you can still see it on the road today.
