This amazing woman nominated her husband after her breast cancer diagnosis in December 2024. Four surgeries. Chemo. Radiotherapy. A month in hospital with sepsis. A baby of 10 months and an 8 year old at home.

And this fella just got on with it. Every school run. Every sleepover. Every football match. Learned girls hairstyles off YouTube. Self employed and losing work throughout. On top of all that, his dad and her dad were both diagnosed at the same time so he was caring for all three of them at once.

Three people. One bloke. Never moaned once.

They want to use the money for a holiday when it's all over. Go on then. You've more than earned it.

🥈 SECOND PLACE

Nat A Lee put Ellie Mae Lewis and her boyfriend Shay forward. Young couple, worked hard, did Australia, came home and bought their first house together. Living the dream.

Then a wall fell on Shay.
Injures his back. He's self employed so no work means no money. Ellie is a CAMHS nurse (hard enough job as it is) and has been doing 5 x 12.5 hour shifts a week to keep things going while their house sits half finished.

All they want is to move into their first home together.

🥉 THIRD PLACE

And then there's Jayne Hughes-Payne, Nominated By Zoe Turner.

Jayne lost her husband and her son this year. Took on her grandson. Has been in hospital herself waiting on an op. And through every single bit of it she has shown up for everyone around her, smiling, no fuss, never asking for a thing.

The person who nominated her said Jayne will probably kill them for writing this. Jayne, we're sorry but we're not sorry.

She's just one of those people isn't she. The ones who hold everyone else up while carrying more than most of us ever will. Merthyr is full of them and we are lucky for it.

Gill nominated Margaret Mccusker and honestly the way she put it made us laugh and cry at the same time. A tough cookie who takes far too much s**t but always makes everyone around her smile.
