Started in 2021, I've now had my Private Hire business coming up for 5 years. I seem to have an excellent reputation with all my customers and the drivers who occasionally cover for me. As a result, a few months back I sought to simplify the name of my business and to include my surname, Birkinshaw. As of June 9th 2026, I'll be changing my business name from MJB Private Hire Car to Birkinshaw's.
Birkinshaw is an unusual surname that pre-dates Anglo-Saxon England, and as such, possesses an ancient coat of arms, which I've had included into my new business logo.

It was another busy week, last week. In fact, we've done another personal best over the week prior; 1200 miles covered and 34 engine runtime hours! Thank you to the two backup drivers who covered the extra work.

A big thank you to all of my customers this past week. Together we've covered 1100 miles, 32 engine runtime hours (not including waiting time), and the most journeys I've ever completed in a week since going solo 🎉 Thanks for your continued support 😊

Why do companies prefer cash or bank transfer?
In a recent month, I paid £15 in card transaction fees. Now that doesn't sound a lot but over a year it can amount to about £200 in lost earnings, and I pay a very low transaction fee. However, I appreciate it's not always convenient to pay via cash or bank transfer, and so I always have my card machine handy.

Illness:
I've gone down with a pretty bad cold, so I'm going to put a temporary pause on new bookings for the next couple of days. New bookings may still be possible with my backup drivers. All pre-bookings will be done by me as usual. Sorry for any inconvenience.
