Taxi companies say:

Suddenly the whole evening becomes stressful.

THIS IS NOT OK. REPORT IT. GUIDE/ASSISTANCE DOGS ARE NOT PETS!

Over the last few months, Passenger Assist has received an increasing number of calls from disabled and vulnerable passengers who say they have been refused travel because of a wheelchair, mobility aid or assistance/guide dog.

Many passengers simply do not know the correct channels to report these incidents — so we are putting this information out there to help people understand their rights.

This is NOT about attacking the taxi trade.

The vast majority of taxi and private hire drivers work extremely hard and provide an excellent service every single day. We know that and respect that.

However, those few incidents where vulnerable passengers are refused transport damage trust across the entire industry. As a small admin team, we are increasingly finding ourselves apologising on behalf of the trade and repeatedly directing distressed passengers towards the correct reporting channels.

Guide dogs and assistance dogs are not pets. They are a lifeline.

There is always a reason why somebody relies on an assistance dog, wheelchair or mobility support — and no passenger should ever be made to feel unwelcome because of a disability.

We have created the attached awareness poster so passengers understand:
✔ Their rights
✔ How to report concerns
✔ Who to contact
✔ What information councils need to investigate complaints properly

If sharing this post helps even one vulnerable passenger feel safer, more confident or better supported when travelling, then it is worth it.
