Quick round-up of what we’ve been up to this week 👇
Fuel & campaigning – Continued pushing for an Essential User Rebate and provided information on the HGV VED holiday announcement. We also kept fuel costs firmly on the agenda through ongoing engagement with policymakers, stakeholders and operators, alongside coverage in The Times, Daily Mail, Express, Motor Transport and major transport media.
Government & stakeholder engagement – Met Transport Select Committee Chair Ruth Cadbury MP at SFI Logistics to discuss recruitment, rising costs, EV infrastructure, border friction and the 90/180 rule. We also caught up with Stephen Flynn MP to discuss issues affecting operators across Scotland.
Industry visits – Great discussions with members including Bannister Transport, GXO Logistics, Inc. and Poundland on fleet electrification, operational efficiency, fuel costs and wider sector pressures.
Northern Ireland – RHA colleagues visited members including Surefreight Limited and Liam Connolly.
Abnormal loads – Held our latest Abnormal Loads Group meeting, continuing work with hauliers, trade bodies, police and the NPCC to improve service provision and reduce unnecessary cost and delays.
Events & speaking – Richard James Smith joined the ClearMinds ClearRoads Conference panel on driver wellbeing and road safety. We also hosted our AGM and Board meeting, welcoming James Bishop from Wrightbus , and announced Emma Thompson MSOE as a Future Forum 2026 speaker.
People & wellbeing – Caught up with Harling Kaye and Peter Mckenna, launched the latest Roadway - the podcast with Hannah Harper, and revisited our Next Gen mental health podcast with Clare Murphy and others as Mental Health Awareness Month draws to a close.
Media – Richard joined Dave King on Truck Radio for a Bank Holiday programme discussing the songs, stories and moments that shaped his career in transport and logistics.
