This morning, Sarah, from The Carers' Centre and Sofia, from SWAN, met to discuss an exciting joint venture to celebrate the volunteers that give their time to support both these vital services.

SWAN transports a large number of passengers to the centre and to various activities across BANES organised by BCC, making it possible for carers to access respite, enjoy fun activities, improve their wellbeing and mental health, and meet with like-minded people who have shared experience of caring.

If you're a carer, or know someone that is that needs support, or simply time to be themselves, make sure you get in touch:

Call the Freephone Support Line: 0800 0388 885 (Mon - Fri 9am - 1pm), or visit their website: www.banescarerscentre.org.uk

It's Carers Week from 8 - 14 June. Most of us will know a carer – someone who is helping to look after someone they love. This might be round-the-clock care or just ad-hoc help, like doing some shopping or taking someone to an appointment. In fact, most of us will care, or be cared for, at some time in our lives. But many carers get on with caring quietly, often invisibly, despite needing support themselves. What's more, many don't even recognise themselves as carers.

The Carers' Centre supports carers of all ages, at all stages of their caring journey. This local charity has been supporting carers for over 30 years and offers a welcoming community of over 8,000 carers who understand both the highs, and the challenges, of caring. It offers FREE wellbeing activities and wide-ranging support.

If you, or someone you know, needs support, or just a friendly ear to talk to about your caring situation:

Call the Freephone Support Line: 0800 0388 885 (Mon - Fri 9am - 1pm)

On Friday we attended the second workshop on the topic of Food and Transport, which is part of a research project undertaken by the University of Bath and Bath & North East Somerset Council.

The project is looking at ways to help those in Radstock and the surrounding areas have better access to affordable food, without the stress and inconvenience that comes with figuring out how to get there and back again.

We are looking forward to continuing to support the project and possibly even facilitating potential solutions in partnership with other key organisations and funders.

SWAN works to keep our communities connected, and we are excited to see how the results of this project will make a difference in our local society.

This is Ella.

Every week, volunteer driver Rob collects Ella and takes her to the Swallow Café.

For Ella, this journey is about far more than simply getting from A to B.

At the café, she’s building confidence, learning life skills and developing work skills that help her grow in independence. It’s a chance to meet people, feel valued, and be part of her community.

But without transport, opportunities like this can easily become out of reach.

That’s why volunteer drivers like Rob make such an incredible difference. What seems like a simple lift can give somebody freedom, confidence, friendship, and opportunity.

And volunteering changes lives in more ways than one. Drivers often say they get just as much back from the experience; from the conversations, the friendships built along the way, and the feeling of knowing they’ve genuinely helped somebody else live a fuller, happier life.

At SWAN Transport, every journey is about kindness, connection, and people helping people.

Can you help us help two individuals with a regular journey each week?

Without a driver, these individuals are unable to access the services they need to support their health and mental wellbeing.

Give an hour a week and make a HUGE impact on someone's life.
