On Friday we attended the second workshop on the topic of Food and Transport, which is part of a research project undertaken by the University of Bath and Bath & North East Somerset Council.

The project is looking at ways to help those in Radstock and the surrounding areas have better access to affordable food, without the stress and inconvenience that comes with figuring out how to get there and back again.

We are looking forward to continuing to support the project and possibly even facilitating potential solutions in partnership with other key organisations and funders.

SWAN works to keep our communities connected, and we are excited to see how the results of this project will make a difference in our local society.

This is Ella.

Every week, volunteer driver Rob collects Ella and takes her to the Swallow Café.

For Ella, this journey is about far more than simply getting from A to B.

At the café, she’s building confidence, learning life skills and developing work skills that help her grow in independence. It’s a chance to meet people, feel valued, and be part of her community.

But without transport, opportunities like this can easily become out of reach.

That’s why volunteer drivers like Rob make such an incredible difference. What seems like a simple lift can give somebody freedom, confidence, friendship, and opportunity.

And volunteering changes lives in more ways than one. Drivers often say they get just as much back from the experience; from the conversations, the friendships built along the way, and the feeling of knowing they’ve genuinely helped somebody else live a fuller, happier life.

At SWAN Transport, every journey is about kindness, connection, and people helping people.

Can you help us help two individuals with a regular journey each week?

Without a driver, these individuals are unable to access the services they need to support their health and mental wellbeing.

Give an hour a week and make a HUGE impact on someone's life.

We’re hiring! We’re looking for someone positive, motivated and great to work with to join our small team for around 8 weeks.

We’d love to hear from anyone who thinks they’d be a good fit - we’re looking to fill the role quickly.

A huge thank you to Bath City Farm who hosted SWAN staff and volunteers today to share the amazing things they get up to on the farm.

SWAN transports multiple passengers to the farm on a regular basis; we were delighted to be able to share the experiences and see first hand the benefit our service users get from being able to access such a wonderful place.

We were treated to a tour and a delicious lunch made by the catering volunteers, with almost all the ingredients grown on the farm! We met so many wonderful people (and animals!) from all walks of life, and really got a feel for the benefits this organisation has on people’s mental health, and their ability to access alternative education and life skills.

Thank you again, we will certainly be back soon and look forward to continuing our partnership 🚘🐐

May 18-24 marks Dementia Action Week.

If you care for someone living with dementia, the worry that they may become lost, confused or disorientated while out and about can be constant.

Our Dementia Safeguarding Scheme is here to help.

The free service allows families and carers to share vital information with police ahead of time, meaning that if someone living with dementia is reported missing, officers can access the information straight away and take action quickly.

Eligible people registered with the scheme can also request free assistance devices, including Life360 Bluetooth Tracking Tiles to help locate someone if they go missing, and NFC wristbands or tags that can be scanned by someone helping them to access key contact information and get them to safety.

Our partnership with Avon Fire & Rescue Service ensures people registered with the scheme are also referred for a free home fire safety visit, helping to reduce risk both at home and in the community.

It was lovely to hear about some of the local community groups, especially those we are able to transport passengers to, and new ones we will connect with, at tonight’s Annual Radstock Town Council Meeting.

Thank you Radstock TC for continuing to support us with community grants, and thank you to your wonderful team who give us so much support, advice, plus a venue for and help with Food Club! We couldn’t do it without you.

We look forward to continue working closely with you 🤲

It’s been a busy and very productive day for SWAN!

We held a trustee meeting this morning over at the Community Wellbeing Hub, where staff and trustees took part in a brilliant fundraising presentation and strategy discussion hosted by our amazing free-lance fundraiser, Anna.

This evening we attended the Midsomer Norton Town Council annual meeting, where we were delighted to give a small talk explaining what we do and thanking the Town Council for their generous donation given in July last year. We are excited to continue working closely with the TC and other community stakeholders in Midsomer Norton.

SWAN serves the whole of BANES, but did you know, 16% of last year’s total journeys were for passengers living in or using facilities in Midsomer Norton?
