This weekend, we are delighted to welcome newly arrived Jinty No. 47298 (7138) to traffic, hauling passenger services along the line. This will be the first visit of a Jinty to our railway since No. 47324 appeared back in July 2007, and the third example of the class to grace our metals, following No. 47279’s visits in 2003 and 2005.

Joining her in service will be our ever-popular locomotive Beatrice, providing a fine contrast of Hunslet-built motive power.

Why not join us for a ride behind these two historic locomotives and experience the sights, sounds, and smells of steam railways past—hopefully accompanied by some fine sunshine! ☀️

We’re also pleased to share a selection of photographs from Mike Heath, captured on Wednesday during No. 7138’s test run.

Please note: both locomotives are subject to availability.

08 773 has had the area where the exhauster fits steam cleaned, and this afternoon the new exhauster was successfully fitted.

Meanwhile, the carriage team have been hard at work washing the Great Northern carriage, getting it looking its best for its first day in traffic tomorrow.

Plenty of teamwork across departments to keep everything moving!

Great Northern Saloon 3087 out on test today with D8110

04/03/2026

After its arrival in November 2025, the beautiful LNERCA’s Great Northern Saloon 3087 has been having some work in the carriage shed.

Since joining us, the team has:
🔧 Recommissioned the kitchen
⚡ Installed three-phase electrics
🪑 Crafted and fitted new tables
🛠 Completed a full mechanical examination

Following its exam, 3087 ventured out on a successful test run to check the axle boxes — always an important milestone in returning a historic vehicle to traffic.

Now shunted into its set and standing ready, this elegant saloon carriage is all prepared for its first public outing this coming Saturday.

Be sure to keep an eye out for this stunning survivor of Great Northern Railway luxury when you visit!

Over the February half term week, D8110 put in a proper graft, working the diesel on the 8-coach set. The train was top and tailed as we weren’t able to run round 8 coaches.

The Type 1 certainly knew the weight was behind it, but it didn’t put a foot wrong all week. A solid week at full power blew away the cobwebs — and a fair few lumps of carbon too!
