What a year it’s been for Mariners Taxis once again. The second half of the year was even busier, especially over the winter months, and we’re proud to have been able to provide more work for more drivers.

Newcastle International Airport has quietly removed the 15-minute free drop-off and pick-up zone.

Every car park on site is now paid parking. The only “free” option is to park at Callerton and catch a shuttle bus that runs every 30 minutes—meaning passengers have to arrive significantly earlier just to avoid a charge.

For many people, that isn’t realistic. Families, those with mobility issues, tight schedules, or early/late flights are left with no real choice but to pay a parking fee just to drop off or collect someone.

What was once a simple, free 15-minute stop has become another unavoidable cost, with no real alternative.

As a result, local taxi firms,including ours,have no choice but to add these airport parking charges on top of fares.

New Waiting Zone now open! 🚗🚖

As we get ready to welcome a record six million passengers in 2026, we've opened a new facility where drivers can wait for free when picking up passengers.

Located at Callerton Parkway, right next to the Metro station, the site offers up to 90 minutes free parking for taxis, minibuses and members of the public.

We encourage drivers to use this facility to help keep roads in our surrounding communities safe and accessible for everyone.
