Specialist Cargo Handling with a Greener Approach🌱

Our Cargo team has been putting an HVO-powered demonstration shunt tug to work within the port, moving dumper buckets over 5.5 metres wide and weighing approximately 18.5 tonnes.

The trial is helping us explore more efficient ways to handle cargo while supporting our commitment to reducing our environmental impact.

What a fantastic day on the water! 💙

We were delighted to support The Knights Foundation by funding a Wetwheels Solent experience for 20 people from the families they support.

Wetwheels makes boating accessible to people of all abilities. Its specially adapted boat enabled wheelchair users and young people with a range of disabilities and additional needs to enjoy views around Portsmouth Harbour and the surrounding coastline, spend time with their families and even take a turn at the helm. 🚤

The day was filled with excitement, smiles and brilliant memories—and offered an opportunity that might otherwise have been out of reach.

The Knights Foundation, our director’s chosen charity this year, provides practical and compassionate support, inclusive opportunities and safe spaces where every child is valued. We’re proud to support its work to help young people feel confident, included and empowered.

Another specialist transport operation successfully completed 🚛

Our Transport team recently moved a 5.1m-wide abnormal load from Southampton to Rugby, weighing 26,288kg.

The journey was carefully planned and coordinated, travelling with two private es**rts and a police es**rt for part of the route.

A great example of the planning, experience and teamwork behind every specialist movement.

We were delighted to host our inaugural Portsmouth breakfast meeting, continuing a tradition that began almost 30 years ago with our Southampton breakfast meetings. ⚓

It was a fantastic morning bringing together our Portsmouth-based customers and business contacts, catching up with familiar faces and making new connections.

We were also delighted to welcome Mike Sellers, Port Director at Portsmouth International Port, as our guest speaker. Mike shared insights into the port’s unique role as a city-owned port, its contribution to the local economy and the recent development providing onshore power for multiple ships.

Hosted at BaxterStorey's Boathouse 4, the morning brought together great conversation, delicious food and spectacular views across the Old Naval Dockyard.

A huge thank you to Mike for joining us, everyone who attended, and the team at Boathouse 4 for helping make the event such a success.

We were delighted to welcome a group of our marine lubricant customers to the Castrol Technology Centre in Pangbourne for an informative and insightful day focused on innovation, reliability, and sustainability within the marine sector.

The visit included technical presentations on Used Oil Analysis (UOA) and Castrol Smart Monitors (CSMs), showcasing how live oil analysis can provide valuable insights into lubricant condition, contamination levels, and overall machinery health. We also explored the latest developments in Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EALs) and the important role they play in reducing the environmental impact of lubricant leakage.

A highlight of the day was the guided laboratory tour, which provided a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the testing and research processes that support Castrol's products and services. The Customer Experience Centre was particularly impressive, earning plenty of positive feedback and a unanimous "wow factor" from our attendees.

The day was rounded off with a fantastic lunch at The Swan at Streatley, offering a great opportunity to continue conversations and strengthen relationships in a relaxed setting.

A huge thank you to all of our customers who joined us, and to the team at Castrol for their warm hospitality and for sharing their expertise throughout the day. Events like these are invaluable for exchanging knowledge, exploring new technologies, and strengthening partnerships across the marine industry.

It's week 3 for our new Marine apprentices: Morgan, Lenny, Ryley, Freddy and Declan, as they continue building their skills across our Marine Division.

Working across different vessels throughout the fleet, they’re learning the essential skills needed to work safely and effectively on deck.

For their first few weeks, the focus is on rope work — learning different knots, working with wires and moorings, and developing the practical skills needed on deck.

One of their first challenges is mastering how to 'lasso’ a rope onto a bollard and, of course, a little friendly competition has already started to see who can become the best at it! 🪢

It’s a hands-on start to their apprenticeships, giving them valuable experience and building the foundations for a career in the marine industry.

Exciting futures ahead!🛥️☀️

Time flies! It's already been over a year since Williams Shipping acquired GIF Transport and Logistics.

It's been a successful first 12 months, with the transition going as smoothly as we'd hoped and plenty of progress made along the way.
