The Road Haulage industry has come a long way since the turn of the century, with major changes being experienced in all forms of the sector. For example, companies have had to live through the nationalisation of the 50's, numerous recessions and depressions, not to mention the fact of a world war. It is common knowledge within the industry, that for a firm to be successful they have to possess the unwavering ability to meet the requirements of their customers by constantly upgrading the level of service they provide. H. Nickolls & Son is the perfect testament to this fact, boasting over 80 years of experience and expertise. The company was formed in 1923 by Hubert Nickolls.one which is steeped in history. I hope you can find the time to look at some of the collection of photo’s that we have on this web site. When the company was first started we owned our own gravel quarry; one of our first vehicles was a Chevrolet tipper. We have experienced very challenging times but have come through these thanks to our ability to meet requirements, regardless. These sentiments can be best illustrated by the way Nickolls' vehicles delivered coal during the second world war, under some of the most trying circumstances ever seen. After the war the quarry was sold, providing us with the perfect opportunity to concentrate on what we do best; road haulage. At that time the fleet comprised of 20 trucks with the majority of the work being tippers and earthmoving. A fact that the company played a fundamental role in the building of the M6. In the 1970's we diversified into waste disposal and skip hire.
