The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has warned anyone who passed their driving test before 2014 that it is almost time to renew their licence before its 10-year expiration date arrives or face a heavy fine.

Photocard driving licences, first introduced in 1998, are only valid for a decade after they are issued and anyone who continues to drive with an expired permit after that point could be fined as much as £1,000 or even have their vehicle seized.

If you’re transporting an unusual load you need to make sure it's being done correctly!

No train of thought……

Last week our enforcement team at Doxey in Staffordshire were alerted to this abnormal load.

Abnormal because:

- it was the wrong special type (STGO) category for the weight – it should have been category 3
- the movement order became incorrect due to the wrong category
- it was 100% overweight at 88 tonnes
- it was insecure as packing and straps not securely stored in an appropriate location
- it had 3 tyres that were damaged or below the legal tread limit

The operator now has to get another movement order which will take around 5 days – after replacing the damaged tyres.

After the 1st of January 2023, a Vehicle Standards Assessor will refuse to test a vehicle which is not appropriately laden.

Furthermore, you will lose the test fee and will need to re-present the vehicle or trailer correctly laden and pay for a new test.
