So, what is the Suez Canal news story all about?📰🤷

The Suez Canal is a critical maritime route that has been a cornerstone of global trade since its completion in 1869.

This artificial waterway connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea and forms a direct shipping route between Europe and Asia.

By avoiding the need to navigate Africa via the Cape of Good Hope it removes around 10 days and 6,000km from the journey.

This means cheaper imports from the Far East.

❗Recently, there have been significant security threats, with ships being attacked by rebel groups.

Despite the presence of a multinational naval effort led by the US to secure the region, attacks continue leading to Maersk and other shipping companies now avoiding this route.

This means much longer transit times and undoubtedly increased charges for imports.

The situation is ongoing, so expect higher consumer prices for goods coming from the Far East.
