Our most sincere condolences to everyone who worked with, or knew Shaun Barton, who lost his life in the Bedford train incident last Friday.

We are hugely saddened at the loss of a member of our railway family. RIP Shaun.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Shaun Burton, Mainline Driver, who tragically lost his life in the Bedford train incident on Friday 19 June.

Shaun was known for his quick-wit, kind, generous, and intelligent nature, and for always having a smile on his face. He was a well-respected colleague, often acting as a trusted advisor and available to share his wisdom, support and guidance to others.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

⚠️Hot weather update 23 - 25 June⚠️

Following the Met Office's red weather warning of extreme heat, we will be running an amended service in the areas affected.

Journeys which start and end outside of the Met Office red zone (Devon, Cornwall and parts of Somerset) will not be affected and the following advice will not apply.

On Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 June please only travel if it is essential. Tickets for travel today, tomorrow or Thursday may be used any time up to and including Friday 26 June, to allow more flexibility with planning when to travel

If your journey is essential please take the following precautions for your safety and comfort:

➡️Plan ahead and check journeys close to the time of travel at http://gwr.com/check

➡️Allow extra time. Journeys are likely to take longer than usual

➡️Carry plenty of water and stay hydrated

➡️If you feel unwell at any point in your journey please speak to a member of staff who will be able to help

If you're travelling in the Thames Valley, plan for changes to train services during the hottest parts of the day, as track temperatures are forecast to reach levels requiring speed restrictions.

Our thoughts are with customers and railway colleagues affected by the incident on East Midlands Railway earlier this evening.

We've lifted ticket restrictions on all GWR services for any customers affected until further notice.

If your journey is affected, we will make every effort to get you to your destination by rail. If not, we will make alternative arrangements.

If you've not started your journey, your ticket will be available for travel on future dates.

If you're already on your way, you can travel back to your origin station at no extra cost.
