Usually I’d be posting a bit of banter about the schools being back tomorrow, but this time I’m not.
This is a serious post regarding Apollo Taxis being slated on a certain Facebook group following the No Art Festival.
Let’s put a few facts straight.
As many of you know, I’m also a driver for Apollo Taxis, and customer service is extremely important to me. Last night, the issues weren’t caused by drivers or taxi companies. They were caused by a complete lack of organisation and traffic management at the festival itself.
A one-way system was put in place for all public transport drop-offs and pick-ups. I was one of many drivers caught in that system for over FOUR HOURS.
I had a customer booked for 11:30pm. Knowing how busy it would be, I left base at 10:00pm. Despite that, I didn’t actually get into the festival grounds until around 2:00am.
By that point, my customers had understandably decided to walk home because it was quicker than waiting for vehicles to get through the traffic.
Now put yourself in the driver’s shoes for a moment. You’ve spent four hours stuck in traffic, unable to move, unable to reach your customers, only to arrive and find they’ve already left. That driver doesn’t get paid. We’ve lost hours of work, fuel, and income, and like everyone else, we have families to feed and bills to pay.
Please think before posting and criticising or slandering a taxi company when the reality is that drivers were doing everything possible to get to their customers. It was virtually impossible to get in or out of the site due to the traffic management arrangements that were put in place.
The frustration was felt by customers and drivers alike.
We’re sorry to everyone affected, but this situation was completely beyond the control of the drivers on the ground.
