Starting from tomorrow (14 May), the new Exhibition Centre Station Public Transport Interchange will be opened to the public, while the Wanchai North Temporary Public Transport Interchange will be shut down. All routes originally using the Wanchai North Bus Terminus will be moved to the new interchange.

In other news, today was the last day of service for route 301, which has been in service since 1991 to relive the heavy pressure on the Tsuen Wan Line between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. Although weather conditions were not good today, many transport enthusiasts still went out to say farewell to the route. As the route is almost parallel to the East Rail Line extension, it was anticipated that passenger levels would drop after the opening of the extension, thus the route did not escape the fate of getting replaced. It can be expected that more changes to Hong Kong's cross harbour bus network will be imposed in the future, especially on routes with low passenger levels or routes that are parallel to the new East Rail Line.

Good evening everyone! The year of 2021 is coming to a close. We’ve picked some events this year to conclude 2021 in terms of Hong Kong’s buses.
2021 saw large changes in bus companies’ fleets. All ALX500 bodied 12 metre Dennis Tridents and Super Olympians, which once dominated the streets, retired. 2021 marks the start of the retirement wave for KMB’s E500 MK1s as well. Due to quota restrictions, Long Win Bus (LWB) moved its elder bus fleet to KMB. Bus companies also started to utilize their buses differently. For example, Citybus placed vintage liveried buses on different routes in early 2021, and KMB also used its demonstrators and buses with Mirror advertisements to attract bus enthusiasts during the weekend, causing a weekend craze among bus enthusiasts.
2021 also turned the tables for the bus franchising system of Hong Kong, where bus companies were no longer bounded by geographical limitations. Recently, Citybus gained access to new routes in Queen’s Hill, a new development area in the New Territories. In other places, the premium bus service was revitalized in 2021 thanks to the commencement of routes P960 and P968. However, in the Southern District of Hong Kong Island, long-term deficit ultimately led to the closure of several bus routes, including the once popular 590 express.
In other news, cashless payment was introduced to buses starting from early 2021, now, passengers can pay their fares with only their phones. Bus companies have also tried their best to connect with society. KMB, Citybus and NWFB also applauded athletes’ efforts in the Tokyo Olympics for their excellent results. The free rides day on 19th December attracted many citizens to head out, resulting in long queues for many cross-harbour routes. Furthermore, a small landslide on The Peak nearly resulted in total collapse of transport in the area, and single decker buses were used to prevent the overloading of slopes.

We are happy to announce that the photo taking competition will start on the 25th of November 2021. The theme this year is 'Transportation in Hong Kong'. All of you can send up to 2 photos to our email [email protected] in JPG format.

Rules apply to the competition and are listed as follows:
1. The photo must NOT be used in any other competitions
2. The photo must NOT be made public at any means
3. The photo must be taken by the competitor himself
4. The photo must NOT be computer-modified (incl. Photoshop)
5. The photo must be related to transportation in Hong Kong.
6. For fairness, commitee members are NOT allowed to join the competition.

To allow adequate time, the deadline will be set at 1st January 2022. Please submit everything by the deadline and late submissions will NOT be entertained.

The submissions will be judged based on quality by our adjudicators Mr Eric Chung and Mr Sonny Chan. Prizes will be given out to the first, second and third places. All prizes are sponsored by Citybus, New World First Bus and the MTR Cooperation.

Today, we are going to introduce the fleet of the Tobu Railway. Currently, the company owns 228 sets of electric multiple units (or EMUs), 4 steam and diesel locomotives, 8 passenger cars and 2 conductor cars. Here, we will introduce some of the named train services of Tobu Railway.

TH Liner
The TH Liner provides service through the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line in limited stops. An additional seat reservation ticket is required to board the train. The words "TH" represents the operators Tobu Railway and the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line. It also represents "Tokyo" and "Home".

TJ Liner
The TJ Liner is a limited stop service targeting at commuters between Saitama Prefecture and Tokyo. The word "TJ" is derived from the Tobu Tojo Line.

Spacia
Spacia is the nickname given to the 100 series. These trains connect Tokyo and the tourist hotspots of the Tochigi Prefecture. Currently, the company is planning to replace them with the newer 500 series which will be introduced below.

Ryomo
Ryomo is a limited express train connecting Tokyo and the Gumma Prefecture. The name is derived from the train's service area - the Ryomo region. It currently uses the 200 series, which, due to ageing, are being replaced by 500 series.

Revaty
Revaty is the nickname given to Tobu Railway’s newest limited express train: 500 series. The train has an elegant champagne gold exterior and an interior that reflects traditional Japanese designs to allow passengers to enjoy a comfortable journey. As of 2021, the trains are being deployed as the new multi-purposed limited express train not only on existing services, but also on brand-new “home liner” services on other lines.

Many of you may be familiar with Japan’s high quality railway services, ranging from the speedy shinkansen to the punctual commuter trains. Japan is proud of its well-developed railways operated by a wide range of companies from government-owned, private businesses and third sector enterprises. Confused? Worry not! Today, we are going to introduce one of the largest private railway companies in Japan.

Founded in 1897, Tobu Railway has a rich history of over 120 years. It owns an extensive stretch on railway which connects Tokyo to the northern part of the Kanto region. It has an operational distance of 463.3km, which is only surpassed by Kintetsu Railway in the Kansai region.

As of 2021, the company operates 12 lines with 209 stations. The lines can be split into two groups. First is the Main Line system which has 10 lines. It refers to trains operating out of Asakusa, Tokyo and in the Tochigi, Gumma and Chiba prefectures. It also provides direct services through the JR Line to Shinjuku. Trains also go through the Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line and Hibiya Line towards the city centre at regular intervals. Next is the Tojo Line system, which refers to trains operating out of Ikebukuro, Tokyo and in the Sataima prefecture. There are also direct services through the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line and Yurakucho Lines.

As the road which our school is situated on, we pass by Queens' Road East every day. Many of us also utilize the buses that pass through that road. However, did you know that there were many more bus routes that passed through this road? Here are some examples!

CTB 61 Central (Exchange Square) Repulse Bay
It was originally opened in 1938 by China Motor Bus and survived the second world war. It was then converted to a seasonal route for swimmers. However, it was cancelled in 2008 due to low passenger numbers.

CTB 260 Central (Exchange Square) Repulse Bay
One of the routes that currently still provides service, 260 is the only 2XX route left on Hong Kong island. Between 1978 and 1986, the route went through Stubbs road and Queens Road East, before being redirected to Gloucester Road and Aberdeen Tunnel to become an express service.

NWFB 15M Admiralty The Peak
It was opened in 1980 to ferry tourists to the Peak during the Chung Yeung Festival. However, it was closed down in 1998.

CTB 10S Happy Valley (Lower) Kennedy Town
It was opened in 2005 as a branch route of CTB 10 and only provided service during rush hours, but soon got cancelled due to low passenger numbers.

NWFB 23B Braemar Hill Central Mid-levels
Some of you may already be familiar with this route as it still exists. However, did you know that this route once went through Queens' Road East? Between 2011 and 2015, 23B had stops on Queens' Road East to attract more students.

CTB/KMB 917 Happy Valley Sham Shui Po
The route was opened in 1997 as a replacement of the then route 117, which is similar to the present day 117. It was one of the "Western Tunnel Express" routes and even had airport coaches for a few months. However, the route was redirected back to the Cross Harbour Tunnel to alleviate congestion in Central.
