The first phase of Maha Metro Nagpur was successfully executed with the starting of passenger services on remaining two lines - Kasturchand Park to Automotive Square Metro Station and Sitabuldi Interchange to Prajapati Nagar Metro Station. With the commissioning of these two lines, the total network of Nagpur Metro Project stands at 40.012 km with 36 stations. The Nagpur Metro Project has two line
s - Orange (Khapri to Automotive Square Metro Station) and Aqua (Lokmanya Nagar to Prajapati Nagar Metro Station). Governor of Maharashtra Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Chief Minister Hon Eknath Shinde, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Hon Nitin Gadkari, Deputy Chief Minister Hon Devendra Fadanvis, Union Minister of State for Railways Shri Raosaheb Danve, The Union Minister for State for Health and Family Welfare Smt Bharti Pawar, MP Shri Krupal Tumane, MLC Shri Chandra Shekhar Bawankule and other officials accompanied the Prime Minister during the event. The Union Cabinet had given approval to the project On 20th August 2014, and Hon Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the project on 21st August 2015. Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) set up to execute this project.
