Today, from the Cruise Port of La Spezia, we took our guests on a deeply moving and unforgettable journey upon their special request.
We visited Sant’Anna di Stazzema, in the beautiful Apuan Alps — a place of extraordinary natural beauty, but also one of the most heartbreaking sites of remembrance in Italy.
Here, history is not simply something you read about. It is something you feel.
The Memorial and the village bear witness to the terrible massacre of August 12, 1944, when hundreds of innocent civilians, including many women and children, were killed.
Standing here is a profoundly emotional experience. The silence, the mountains, the memorial — everything invites reflection and remembrance.
But this day gave me something I did not expect.
It allowed me to meet a wonderful person who, in the middle of this sad and powerful place, included me in his walk to the Memorial.
For a moment, something beautiful happened in the middle of such painful history: two people from different countries, different backgrounds, walking together, connecting as human beings.
It reminded me that travel can do something extraordinary. It can bring people together. It can open conversations, create understanding, and break down the barriers that have divided us for generations — barriers that, sadly, still exist in our world today.
Perhaps this is one of the most important reasons to travel: not only to see new places, but to meet people, understand each other, and discover how much we have in common.
Today, Sant’Anna di Stazzema was more than a destination.
It was a place of remembrance, reflection, humanity — and connection.
