A Remarkable Story of Justice — Ali ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه.

During his caliphate, Ali ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه once disputed with a Jewish man over a shield that he had lost during the Battle of Siffin.

One day, while walking through the market of Kufa, he saw a Jewish man selling a shield.
The Commander of the Faithful said: “This is my shield.”

The man replied: “No, it is mine — and between us stands the judge.”

So they both went to the judge, Shurayh ibn al-Harith.

Shurayh said:
“O Commander of the Faithful, do you have any proof?”

Ali replied:

“Yes, my son al-Hasan will testify that the shield is mine.”

Shurayh responded:
“The testimony of a son in favor of his father is not admissible.”

Ali said:
“SubḥānAllāh! A man from the people of Paradise — and his testimony is not accepted?”
Shurayh answered:

“O Commander of the Faithful, that is for the Hereafter. As for this world, the testimony of a son for his father is not accepted. The burden of proof is upon the claimant, and the oath is upon the one who denies.”

Ali then said:
“You have spoken the truth.”
With no admissible evidence from the Caliph, Shurayh ruled that the shield belonged to the Jewish man.
As the man walked away, he reflected in amazement:
“I stand beside the Commander of the Faithful, yet his own judge rules against him in my favor! What kind of religion is this?”
Overwhelmed by the justice he witnessed, he returned, embraced Islam, and said:
“By Allah, it is your shield.”
Ali replied:
“Now that you have accepted Islam, the shield is a gift from me to you.”

Such was the justice of Islam — a justice that conquers hearts before lands.

A BEAUTIFUL DESCRIPTION OF PARADISE (JANNAH)

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ described some of the incredible blessings that await the believers in Jannah.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“In Paradise, there is a market to which the people will come every Friday. A pleasant wind will blow and spread fragrance over their faces and clothes, increasing them in beauty and loveliness. Then they will return to their families, and they too will have increased in beauty and loveliness.

Their families will say: ‘By Allah, you have become more beautiful since you left us.’ And they will reply: ‘By Allah, you too have become more beautiful since we left you.’”

— Reported in Sahih Muslim.

This hadith reminds believers of the joy, peace and beauty that will exist in Jannah—where people will meet one another, gather and experience blessings beyond imagination.

Allah ( Mighty and Sublime be He) describes the beauty and rewards of Paradise in the Qur’an:

“And therein is whatever the souls desire and what delights the eyes, and you will abide therein forever.”
— Surah Az-Zukhruf (43:71).

“No soul knows what joy has been hidden for them as a reward for what they used to do.”
— Surah As-Sajdah (32:17).

A THRILLING STORY

The story is about a destitute man who lived in times of the holy Prophet, Mohamed (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him).

The man was not only a destitute but also too unattractive. The Sahabas used to describe him as a hideous (awful) one. When someone looks at him, he would just look away from him.

The man was created by Allah that way - poor, no status in society, and hideous, and even his name was Ugly!

His real name was Julaybeeb (may Allah be pleased with him).
Rasul'Allah (Sallallahu alayhi wassalam) saw Julaybeeb one day and he had grown older in age. He then said to him:

How are you o Julaybeeb!
Julaybeeb then said: Ya Rasul'Allah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him), do you think the only women I will get shall be that of Jannah, hoor-al-ayn (women of paradise) In Shaa Allah?

Rasul'Allahu (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) understood what he was trying to say, that he was never going to be able to get married in his life. Is he just gonna die and just hope to meet hoor-al-ayn?

Rasul'Allah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: No, you are going to get a woman from Dunyah In Shaa Allah and also from the Akhira.

Then Rasul'Allah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said to him: O Julaybeeb, go to so and so and ask, they have a daughter.

He went and they rejected him. Then Rasul'Allah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) went to the said man and said to him: “I want to ask for your daughter's hand.”

The man then replied: Allahu Akbar! Rasul'Allah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him), what a beautiful news this is that makes the eyes englighten the heart, Subhan'Allah!

Rasul'Allah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) then said: No, no! It’s not for me.

He said: Who for then?

He (the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: For Julaybeeb (may Allah be pleased with him).

Then, his smile suddenly faded and turned into a frown, and he said: Let me ask her mother.
He then went home and said to his wife: Rasul'Allah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) has asked for our daughter: She then said: Allahu Akbar! What a great honour that brings comfort to the eyes and to the heart!

He man then said: No, no! Not for Rasul'Allah! She asked him: For who? He said: For Julaybeeb. And then the mother said: Subhan'Allah! We had a better man than him coming and asking for our daughter and we rejected him, we had greater families asking for her, and we refused them. And now, the lowest of the low in the society and the most hideous, we have to give our daughter to him? No, no please!

There daughter was in the background inside, listening.
So, she came out saying: What is this that I'm hearing mom and dad?

They relied: Rasul'Allah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) is proposing for you on behalf of another man.

She then said: Rasul'Allah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) is proposing that man to me, and you're saying no to Rasul'Allah?

Wallahi (by Allah), I will not refuse the request of Rasul'Allah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon) and Julaybeeb is the only man I will marry!

Allahu Akbar!

When the news came to Julaybeeb, he was rejoiceful. Masha’Allah, and Rasul'Allah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) got the companions to look after him and donate so that he could get married.

Time passed and there was one of the battles, then Julaybeeb was among the people who went into that Battle.

Rasul'Allah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) was there and the Muslims were victorious in the battle, and then he went out as he usually does and looked amongst the Sahabahs.

There were great Sahabahs who had died and he was asking for everyone. People were also asking for their loved ones : Where’s my uncle, where’s my brother, where’s my son, where’s my so and so?

But Rasul'Allah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) was asking for one question: Where is my Julaybeeb? And everybody would say, we don’t know o Rasul'Allah. Nobody cared about Julaybeeb, only Rasul'Allah did.

Where is my Julaybeeb? Everyone was saying, I don’t know o Rasul'Allah, and they will say O RasulAllah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him), have you seen my uncle? He would say: No, but have you seen my Julaybeeb? They would say: No, no we don’t know anything about him.

So Rasul'Allah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) went looking for him, and amidst the dead, he finally found Julaybeeb (may Allah be pleased with him).

Dead on the ground, and around him as a circle, there was seven of the enemies dead.

And Rasul'Allah (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) when he saw this image, he stared at him and his beloved eyes flowed with tears.

He said: "He killed seven of the enemies of Islam and then he was killed. Julaybeeb is of me and I'm of him. Julaybeeb is of me, and I'm of him". He repeated this three times. Julaybeeb is of me. He’s one of my family and I am one of his family.

STORY -- ALLAH CONCEALS A SINNER

A pious person narrates, I saw a young man frequently reciting the words, 'Oh Eternal being, Your Kindness is so Eternal!'

One day I asked him, "Why do you recite these words so often?"

He answered, "I do because of a strange incident that changed my life. When I was younger I would attend weddings and functions frequented by females. I would dress as a women and draw a veil over my face so that they would not identify my gender. In this way I would join in their functions and sit amongst them. One day there was a wedding function in the house of the ruler. I attended as usual. Incidentally a piece of jewellery which was valuable was stolen and the ruler instructed all the women be searched.

Accordingly, they were instructed to remove their veils. When this happened I began to recite these words, "O Eternal Being, Your Kindness is also Eternal.' I also took a pledge to ALLAH that if HE concealed my identity, I would never attend female functions again. As they were about to search me, it was announced that the remaining women should be left alone as the jewellery had been recovered.

That day, I repented to ALLAH and promised to never revert to such a sin again."

ALLAH CONCEALS SINS THROUGH HIS MERCY.

The Prophet (SallAllahu Alyhi wasallam) said to his companions:

"Shall I not tell you some words which, if distress or grief befalls any of you and he makes this du'aa, it will bring him joy? It is the du‘a of Dhoo’l-Noon (i.e. Yunus or Jonah):
.. لاَ إِلَهَ إِلَّا أنْـت سُـبْحانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْـتُ مِنَ الظّـالِميـن

‘Laa ilaaha illa Anta, subhaanaka inni kuntu min al-zaalimeen.

‘There is no god but You, Glory to You; verily I was one of the wrongdoers.’"

It was narrated that Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqaas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (SallAllahu Alyhi wasallam) said:

"The prayer of Dhu’l-Noon when he was in the belly of the fish:

لاَ إِلَهَ إِلَّا أنْـت سُـبْحانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْـتُ مِنَ الظّـالِميـن

'There is no god but You, glory to You, verily I was one of the wrongdoers.'

A Muslim never calls upon his Lord with these words concerning any matter, but his prayer is answered.

-- What prevented Angel Jibrael (AS) from meeting the Prophet (ﷺ) --

-- A'isha reported that Gabriel (peace be upon him) made a promise with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) to come at a definite hour; that hour came but he did not visit him. And there was in his hand (in the hand of Allah's Apostle) a staff. He threw it from his hand and said:

Never has Allah or His messengers (angels) ever broken their promise. Then he cast a glance (and by chance) found a puppy under his cot and said: 'A'isha, when did this dog enter here? She said: By Allah, I don't know He then commanded and it was turned out. Then Gabriel came and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to him: You promised me and I waited for you, but you did not come, whereupon he said: It was the dog in your house which prevented me (to come), for we (angels) do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture.
Sahih Muslim 2104 a

-- Abu Talha reported:
I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Angels do not enter the house in which there is a dog or a statue.
Sahih Muslim 2106 b

-- Narrated Abu Talha:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or there are pictures."
Sahih al-Bukhari 5949

-- It is a regular practice in homes of today to have decorations such as statues or figurines as well as paintings of living beings or family portraits. Such acts only take us away from the mercy of Allah and deprives us of peace and tranquility in our homes. We should try to not adhere to social norms and think of the greater benefits that would be good for us in this world and the hereafter.
