It is happening. RIGHT NOW.

The EMAK Q1 2026 Industry Roundtable on Electric Mobility is live at Strathmore Business School (SBS), Nairobi and the energy in the room is extraordinary.

30 of Kenya's most consequential voices in electric mobility EV manufacturers, fleet operators, financiers, regulators, development partners, and policymakers are in one room today, doing something rare: making real decisions, in real time, on record.

Right now, the room is working through recommendations for EV sector whitepaper 2026 and recommendations for Kenya's Finance Bill 2026 line by line to determine what the EV sector must defend, what must be expanded, and what Kenya simply cannot afford to get wrong. Every participant is voting. Every vote is being recorded. Every adopted position will be formally submitted to Parliament.

This is not a conference. There are no passive seats. Every person in this room has a voice, a voting card, and a commitment to sign before they leave.

Kenya's electric vehicle sector grew by 2,700% between 2022 and 2025. What happens in this room today will shape the next chapter of that story.

If you are not here, you will want to be at the next one.

Watch this space. Kenya's EV transition is not coming. It is here. And we are writing its next chapter today.

2026, we’re accelerating.

As we commence a new year, one thing is clear: Kenya’s e-mobility journey is no longer about pilots or promises it’s about scale, systems, and leadership.

The latest newsletter from EMAK captures a defining close to 2025 and sets the tempo for what lies ahead. This is the moment where policy meets production, capital meets demand, and innovation meets everyday mobility.

What powered our momentum into 2026?
• A landmark open battery-swap collaboration led by Ampersand, signalling a future built on interoperability and shared infrastructure.

• Rapid rider-first expansion by ARC Ride , proving that convenience and scale can move together.

• Game-changing fleet deployments from BasiGo , pushing electric public transport beyond early adoption and into everyday operations.

Alongside these, members like Roam , , and Mobility closed the year with milestones in local manufacturing, charging and swap infrastructure, inclusive green jobs, and commercially viable EV models. Strategic pilots with private-sector leaders such as Transits Africa (ETA) , (JAC Kenya and SGA Security show that electric fleets are no longer the future they’re operational today.

From packed convenings in Nairobi to continental collaboration in Addis Ababa, 2025 closed with confidence. And 2026 opens with conviction. This year is about ex*****on. About capital flowing, infrastructure connecting, and African solutions leading.

If you’re a policymaker, investor, fleet operator, development partner, or innovator this is your invitation. The ecosystem grows when every voice, project, and ambition is part of the journey.

⚡ Electric Mobility Beyond Cities: Powering Kenya’s Next Frontier

As 2026 commence in the latest podcast episode in collaboration with Credence Engage, we sat down with Cleopatra Adwar, Head of Programs at E-Safiri - Driving Africa’s transition to sustainable transport to explore what it truly takes to build inclusive, resilient EV charging infrastructure in Kenya especially beyond Nairobi.

Founded in 2020 and operational in Kisumu since 2023, E-Safiri - Driving Africa’s transition to sustainable transport is deliberately focusing on rural and peri-urban communities, where electric mobility can deliver the greatest economic and social impact. Their approach challenges the assumption that EV infrastructure must start in urban centres.

🔋 What stood out from the conversation?

• Solar-powered charging as a game changer
E-Safiri’s model prioritizes solar-backed charging hubs, reducing reliance on an often-unreliable grid while extending clean mobility to underserved regions.

• Battery swapping for riders who can’t afford downtime
For full-time boda boda and tuk-tuk operators working 10–14 hours a day, battery swapping offers speed, affordability, and predictability critical for income security.

• Productive use of energy beyond mobility
Surplus solar energy at charging hubs is powering cold storage facilities, supporting food preservation and local livelihoods, particularly around the Lake Victoria region.

• Infrastructure is not just hardware it’s partnerships
From county governments to community-based organisations, E Safiri’s success highlights the importance of local collaboration in site selection, approvals, and adoption.

• Skills and standardisation remain key gaps
The sector still faces shortages in EV-trained technicians and fragmented charging standards areas that require coordinated action across industry, government, and training institutions.

With Kenya’s electricity mix already over 90% renewable, the opportunity to leapfrog into distributed, solar-driven EV infrastructure is real especially if we centre solutions around people, productivity, and place.

As this conversation reinforced, the future of electric mobility in Kenya will not be built by technology alone, but by ecosystems that connect energy, transport, communities, and policy.

EMAK Open Day 2025: A Turning Point for Kenya’s E-Mobility Story

On 5th December at the Kenya School of Government, the EMAK Open Day unfolded like a live documentary of Kenya’s clean-transport transition. What began as a quiet morning exhibition quickly evolved into one of the most engaging public conversations on e-mobility this year.

The day opened with remarks from EMAK President Hezbon Mose and partners from GIZ Kenya, setting a people-centred narrative: Kenya’s shift to electric mobility is no longer a future concept it’s happening now, and it is shaping livelihoods, industries, and cities.

From there, the story-built momentum.
Government agencies, utilities, OEMs, and innovators took the main stage, addressing affordability, infrastructure readiness, tariffs, and policy clarity. Live polls and Q&As revealed something striking Kenyans are eager to transition, but want transparency, reliability, and relatable information.

That relatability came next.
In one of the day’s most impactful segments, everyday users' riders, drivers, fleet operators, SACCO owners told their stories. They spoke of reduced daily costs, smoother operations, and remaining challenges. Their honesty shifted the conversation from abstract policy to real-world experience.

The guided exhibition tour gave participants hands-on exposure charging demos, swap stations in action, test rides, and emerging innovations. Curiosity turned into confidence as attendees realized how simple and practical EV technology has become.

Afternoon sessions tackled the big structural questions:
• Tariffs, policy and standards
• Financing models for riders, MSMEs & operators
• Myth-busting on safety, performance & charging
• One-on-one clinics connecting financiers and operators

By late afternoon, Credence Engage delivered a consolidated set of insights highlighting tariff reforms, financing gaps, public awareness needs, and partnership opportunities to accelerate adoption.

The event closed with reflections from EMAK, GIZ Kenya Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, and Credence Engage, signaling continued collaboration through sector podcasts, spotlight videos, and follow-up engagements.

The verdict?

EMAK Open Day 2025 was not just successful it was catalytic. It brought clarity where there was confusion, connection where there were gaps, and momentum where the sector needed it most.

A special thank you to our partners Credence Engage and GIZ Kenya Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH through the Promotion of Electric Mobility in Kenya project, our exhibitors, speakers, riders, operators, counties, financiers, and every participant who helped shape this important national conversation.
