Silk Island, locally known as Koh Dach, is a peaceful island on the Mekong River, about 15 km north of Phnom Penh. It’s famous for preserving Cambodia’s traditional silk weaving heritage and offers a calm escape from the busy city.
The island is dotted with stilted wooden houses, small pagodas, and lush countryside. Visitors can watch local artisans turn silkworm cocoons into fine silk spinning, dyeing, and weaving by hand using age-old techniques passed down through generations.
2, Oudong Temple (Oudong Mountain), Cambodia
Oudong Temple, located on Oudong Mountain in Kandal Province, about 40 km northwest of Phnom Penh, is one of Cambodia’s most sacred and historically important religious sites. Oudong was the royal capital of Cambodia from the 17th to the 19th century, before the capital moved to Phnom Penh.
The mountain is crowned with several ancient stupas that contain relics of Buddha and the ashes of former Khmer kings. As you climb the long staircase to the top, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of surrounding rice fields, villages, and the Tonlé Sap floodplain.
Oudong is especially lively during religious festivals and Buddhist holidays, when monks and pilgrims gather to pray and make offerings. The peaceful atmosphere, combined with deep spiritual meaning, makes it a place for reflection as well as cultural discovery.
