Hello guys! Let's explore Preah Khan Temple.
Hidden in the junggle located north of Angkor Thom and at the west bank of Jayatataka Baray, Preah Khan is en enormous city temple that was built by king Jaya Varman VII in 1191. It was dedicated to the king's father and it has more functional usages, the temporary capital city, high level education center, Buddhist and Hindu ritual practicing centre. Preah Khan Temple is one of the largest and most significant monuments in the Angkor Archaeological Park. Built in 1191 AD by King Jayavarman VII, the temple was dedicated to his father and served as far more than a place of worship. It functioned as a royal city, a Buddhist monastery, a university, and an important administrative center of the Khmer Empire. Covering about 56 hectares, Preah Khan features a vast network of galleries, courtyards, libraries, shrines, and towering gateways surrounded by lush jungle. Originally dedicated to Mahayana Buddhism, the temple also includes Hindu shrines, reflecting the peaceful coexistence of Buddhism and Hinduism during Jayavarman VII's reign. Today, with its towering trees, ancient ruins, and beautifully carved sandstone, Preah Khan offers visitors one of the most atmospheric and captivating experiences in Angkor, where history, architecture, and nature blend together in a remarkable way.
