COLOMBO (News 1st) - Litro Gas Lanka has announced a significant upward revision in the prices of domestic LP gas cylinders, effective from midnight today.

The company cited the escalating global war situation and the sharp rise in international market rates and freight costs as the primary drivers behind the move.

Accordingly, the price of a 12.5 kg cylinder has increased by Rs. 775.00, raising the total cost from Rs. 3,990.00 to a new price of Rs. 4,765.00.

The 5 kg cylinder has seen an increase of Rs. 308.00, moving from its previous price of Rs. 1,602.00 to a new price of Rs. 1,910.00.

The smallest 2.3 kg cylinder has been increased by Rs. 140.00, bringing the current price of Rs. 750.00 up to a new price of Rs. 890.00.

In its official statement, Litro Gas noted that while the cost of importing gas has surged, the company opted for a "minimum price revision."

Despite the price hike, the company offered a silver lining regarding supply stability. Litro confirmed that 38,000 metric tons of gas are currently in "Floating Storage" near the Maldives, ready to be dispatched to ensure no shortages occur during the festive April period.

Looking ahead to May, the company revealed its logistics plan:

The vessel Luigi Galvani is currently en route via South Africa carrying 20,000 metric tons.

A second vessel, the Freycinet, has departed South America with an additional 20,000 metric tons.

With these shipments secured, Litro Gas assures the public that there will be no disruption to the gas supply through the next two months.
