Malta in Motion Malta in Motion
Delivering a national integrated transport system led by Transport Malta. The right to move, the way you choose.

07/05/2026

Malta in Motion is about more than reducing traffic. It is about reconnecting people, places and opportunities across the Maltese Islands.

A nationally connected transport system is already being developed and implemented today, one that will continue to grow stronger over the next 15 years and beyond.

By bringing together buses, ferries, walking, cycling, road networks, future rapid transit and smarter mobility planning into one integrated system, every part works better together:
more choice, easier journeys and more people-first places.

This is not a single project.
It is a long-term shift towards a more connected Malta.

The future of mobility has already started.

Help shape Malta’s transport future.

A project led by Transport Malta

Malta in Motion is grounded in the National Integrated Transport Plan (NITP), which sets out a single, coordinated approach to planning and delivering the transport system over the long term.

The NITP brings together national transport policies and strategies into a clear implementation roadmap, ensuring the RTS, bus network, ferries, walking and cycling, roads and parking all work as one integrated system.

Rather than planning each element in isolation, the NITP provides a shared strategic direction so that investments and actions are aligned and deliver visible improvements year by year.

Malta in Motion hija bbażata fuq il-Pjan Nazzjonali Integrat tat-Trasport (NITP), li jistabbilixxi approċċ wieħed u koordinat għall-ippjanar u t-twassil tas-sistema tat-trasport fuq medda twila ta’ żmien.

In-NITP jiġbor flimkien il-politiki u l-istrateġiji nazzjonali tat-trasport f’pjan ċar ta’ implimentazzjoni, u jiżgura li r-RTS, in-netwerk tal-karozzi tal-linja, il-ferries, il-mixi u r-rota, it-toroq u l-parkeġġ jaħdmu bħala sistema integrata waħda.

Minflok ma jiġu ppjanati kull wieħed minn dawn l-elementi b’mod iżolat, in-NITP jipprovdi direzzjoni strateġika komuni sabiex l-investimenti u l-azzjonijiet ikunu allinjati u jwasslu għal titjib viżibbli sena wara sena.

Moments from Jonathan Mizzi, Director of Mizzi Studio and Living Bridge Studios, on Malta in Motion.

The National Integrated Transport Plan brings all modes together into one coordinated system connecting people, places and opportunities across the Maltese Islands.

Mizzi Studio’s role is to support Arup in translating the technical process locally so that it is understood and works for the people.

Because progress depends on collaboration. Systems must work together and so must we.

Freedom to move in a way that suits you.

Mumenti minn Jonathan Mizzi, Direttur ta’ Mizzi Studio u Living Bridge Studios, dwar Malta in Motion.

Il-Pjan Nazzjonali Integrat tat-Trasport jgħaqqad il-modi kollha f’sistema waħda koordinata li tgħaqqad lin-nies, il-postijiet u l-opportunitajiet madwar il-Gżejjer Maltin.

Ir-rwol ta’ Mizzi Studio huwa li jgħin lil Arup fit-traduzzjoni teknikali ta’ dan il-proċess fil-kuntest lokali, sabiex jinftiehem u jaħdem għan-nies.

Għax il-progress jiddependi fuq il-kollaborazzjoni.
Is-sistemi jridu jaħdmu flimkien u hekk ukoll irridu nagħmlu aħna.

Il-libertà li nimxu b’mod li jaqbel lilek.

Mument mill-Kap Eżekuttiv ta’ Transport Malta, Kurt Farrugia

Sistema tat-trasport li taħdem bħala waħda - mibnija fuq 6 komponenti li jaħdmu flimkien: tgħaqqad ix-xibka tal-karozzi tal-linja, it-trasport marittimu, il-mixi u r-roti, il-mobilità attiva, l-infrastruttura tat-toroq u, għall-ewwel darba, approċċ koordinat għall-ipparkjar.

Kollox marbut flimkien bħala parti minn netwerk usa’, jaħdem flimkien ma’ sistema futura ta’ rapid transit.

A moment from the CEO of Transport Malta, Kurt Farrugia

A transport system that works as one - made up of 6 components working together: connecting buses, maritime transport, walking and cycling, active mobility, road infrastructure and, for the first time, a coordinated approach to parking.

All linked as part of a wider network, working together with future rapid transit.

Il-Ministru Chris Bonett dwar Malta in Motion fil-Fondazzjoni tal-Ferroviji ta’ Malta u l-Mużew tat-Tramm aktar kmieni din il-ġimgħa.

Ix-xogħol diġà beda, fuq it-trasport pubbliku, il-laneċ, l-ivvjaġġar attiv u aktar - b’aktar passi ġejjin hekk kif naħdmu lejn sistema aktar konnessa.

Minister Chris Bonett on Malta in Motion at Malta’s Railway Foundation and Tram Museum earlier this week.

Work has already been underway, across public transport, ferries, active travel and beyond - with more to come as we work towards a more connected system.

Introducing Malta in Motion, a long-term programme shaping how we move across the Maltese Islands.

This is not one project, it is a system.
A more connected bus network.
A maritime network that uses the sea as it should.
Safer streets for walking and cycling.
Smarter roads, better parking, and a future rapid transit system.

All working together.

Rooted in the National Integrated Transport Plan, this programme brings together years of research, planning and national strategy to create a transport system that is efficient, inclusive and built for the future.

Real change only works when people are part of it.
This is about more than transport. It is about reconnecting people, place, and everyday life.

Malta wasn’t always like this. There was a time when we moved differently. For a time we even had railways, trams, buses and ferries all operating at the same time.

There was a rhythm to island life. A sense of movement, that we all shared. We were truly multimodal. And there was pride in that. And we can have that again.

Every generation has shaped how we move. If we move together, we will be part of an integrated transport legacy.

What an opportunity!
