Can PJD Link Be Stopped?
I was asked if the residents of PJ have a chance to stop the PJD Link project.
Before I give you an assessment of how resident protests are going, here's an excerpt of resident complaints from Petaling Jaya and Puchong.
Melvin David, 42, fears his double-storey terrace house in Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya in Selangor, may be acquired for the proposed Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link) and that he would not be able to afford another house in PJ if his house was forcefully acquired. (1)
The article also Halimaton Saadiah Hassan from Vista Lavender apartments in Taman Kinrara, Puchong, saying her apartment was 20 years old she worries a highway passing by the main road facing her apartment will further damage her property.
In the same article, PJD Link Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Amrish Hari Narayanan said any acquisition of private land and compensation would be carried out strictly in accordance with the Land Acquisition Act 1960.
He also said a professional building surveyor would check the condition of all the property within the planned highway alignment.
“The property will be photographed and recorded. While the construction of the highway is not expected to cause any damage to buildings, any complaints or claims can be submitted at first instance to PJD Link for assessment.
Amrish is talking about how the rules will work for the issues raised and does not address the worries of the residents at all.
Melvin David not being able to afford another house in PJ is not his concern. Halimaton Saadiah's fear that her condo will be damaged is not unfounded but that PJD Link will be able to assess claims for damages if that happens.
This is exactly how a corporation would treat you. They are in the business of making a profit. Their concern is not about whether you would vote for them or not.
See, that is why I have always advocated to go directly to the politicians. You buang masa bising dengan syarikat swasta buat apa?
Tapi kan, I know 95% of you will tell me repeatedly Pakatan won't do this kind of sh*t. They will take care of the residents.
Here, allow me to show you what the residents faced with SUKE went through from just a small sampling of my old posts and tell me that PJ residents are not going through the same sh*t.
In 2016, I wrote this post along with some photos to show how forested areas had been cleared for the SUKE highway project before the forest was officially degazetted. (2)(3)
In 2018 and 2019, residents recorded videos of floods. (4)(5)
I also showed how the SUKE EIA report predicted the floods. (6)
Does this all sound familiar? Wait la, I got the best example yet for you.
------------------------
Another Taman Bukit Ampang resident, Mat Nor Mohamed Ali, 70, whose house will also be acquired for the highway, said the local community deserves better than to be informed they would lose their homes from a notice on a wall.
“I have stayed in the same house since the 1980s. It is fully-paid off and now you are telling me I have to start all over again?” he said.
“Those involved should treat us with respect and answer our questions or provide us a chance speak our mind rather than keep us in the dark until the very last minute.
“At my age, where am I supposed to go?” (7)
------------------------
Sounds like what 42-year-old Melvin David is facing right? Guess what, if the developer can screw over a 70-year-old Malay man, they can screw you over too.
So, in case it still isn't clear yet, my assessment of the present PJD Link fight is the same as the fight against SUKE. You are not winning this fight based on how passive and timid the response is towards our politicians.
Peace.
