Hot weather is becoming deadly for stray animals.
They cannot turn on a tap. They cannot ask for help. They cannot choose a safe place to rest. They survive only through human compassion.
Persatuan Haiwan Terbiar Malaysia (SAFM) is deeply concerned by the current heat and the growing danger faced by stray dogs and cats. SAFM has also received multiple complaints involving pets left outdoors under direct sun without enough water. This is alarming and unacceptable. Neglect that causes suffering may amount to an offence under Section 29 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015.
Stray animals are among the most vulnerable during extreme heat. Without water, shade, and immediate help, heatstroke can develop quickly and become life-threatening. Warning signs include excessive panting, difficulty breathing, weakness, vomiting, and collapse.
One house, one bowl of water.
Please place a bowl of clean water in a shaded area. Refill it daily. Allow animals to rest in safe shaded spaces. Feed stray animals during cooler hours such as early morning or evening. Do not chase them away when they are trying to shelter from the heat.
If an animal appears to be suffering from heatstroke, move it to a shaded area immediately, cool the body gradually using normal or tepid water, and seek veterinary help as soon as possible.
A small act for us can mean survival for them.
Place a bowl of water. Save a life.
