The root/origin of sin is DESIRE; "Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death."- James 1:14-15.
The root of righteousness is also DESIRE;
"Then Jesus explained: "My nourishment (meat, food, *my appetite*) comes from doing the will of GOD, who sent me, and from finishing his work."- John 4:34.
And now abide faith, hope, and love, but the greatest of these is LOVE. Get to Loving the Truth and see Satan turn to jelly in your life.

The same way all we needed to do was *lust*, have a strong wanting for things, positions, power, etc, and Satan will manipulate the rest of the way, it's the same way all we need to do is *love*, have an intense attachment for the Truth of the Word of GOD, and the Holy Spirit will do the rest of the job.

You can pray, fast, work hard, suffer, etc, to overcome sin, but you will never be able to, until you love the Truth more than you lust for sin.

What it means to CONTINUE IN SIN is to make excuses for wrongdoings, seeking sympathy not correction; seeking consolation not repentance; and wanting to settle for transgression as a lifestyle rather than turning around from it, and making righteousness our life's pursuit (Matthew 6:33).

If you know people CONTINUING IN SIN, reach out, witness to them in private, help, restore, do not make enemies of them, pray, rebuke them publicly, (Matthew 18:15-17, Galatians 6:1-10; Ecclesiastes 4:9-10; 2 Thessalonians 3:15; James 5:16; 1 Timothy 5:20)
If having done all these they still CONTINUE IN SIN, then turn away, separate from them, and leave them to their fate (1 Corinthians 5:11; Romans 16:17).

Whatever happens never impose or force the Gospel on anyone, this is legality, and not the way of Grace. Those who will overcome sin will do so by falling in love with the Truth, and you cannot force love or it seizes to be love.
Jesus said, my meat is to do my FATHER' s Will; if you love Me you will obey Me. Give as you decide in your heart, not reluctantly or compulsorily, GOD loves a cheerful giver. Serving GOD is by choice, not by force (John 4:34; 14:15; 2 Corinthians 9:7; Deuteronomy 30:19).
If we actively pursue correction, repentance, and righteousness, thirsting for them as for water in a desert, we will eventually be filled.-Matthew 5:6.

Wonder why many will say on that day, "Lord Lord", but Jesus will say, "I never knew you...." It is because they claimed to be SAVED yet continued in sin, thinking salvation is merely about escaping Hell.
If GOD saves me from Hell without saving me from sin, there'll be no Heaven for me even if I'm in Heaven. Ask the Israelites who lived right under the atmosphere of miracles, yet in their hearts they always returned to Egypt.

What you allow is what will continue. "No one who is born of GOD (SAVED) will *continue* to sin, because GOD' s seed remains in them; they CANNOT GO ON sinning, because they have been born of GOD."-1 John 3:9.
Does this mean Apostle John who wrote that was perfectly sinless? I dare say NO. Hence the word *continue*, and *go on*. So although John wasn't perfectly sinless, he didn't continue in sin. Although he knew GOD has forgiven his short comings, he didn't go on to indulge in that from which he was forgiven.

"For by a single offering He has perfected for all time those who are *being* sanctified."-Hebrew 10:14.
I would enter Heaven based only on what Jesus did, however what Jesus did must CONTINUE in me, the effect of Saving Grace is PRESENT CONTINUOUS, it never stops, it never comes to an end,
or it never partained to me at all. Therefore a Grace that forgives me of sin without empowering me to SIN NO MORE is not the Grace of Jesus Christ.

We accepted Jesus to be cleansed of our sins, but we must continue to obey Jesus to remain cleansed. This is none optional; there's no alternative to obedience.
"How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word."-Psalm 119:9.

You can not argue against obedience.
You can not negotiate obedience.
You can not bribe obedience.
You can simple disobey, and forfeit the privilege of Salvation, or obey and continue getting the Divine HELP you need to be fashioned into the very image and likeness of Christ.

You must not pursue Biblical knowledge except to obey, because to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.-James 4:17.
"What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter."-Isaiah 5:20.
The Bible is not a book to satisfy your thirst for knowledge, after which you can go on living as you like. It is a most dangerous thing to know the Truth but refuse to obey, it would be better if you were ignorant (Joshua 7).

If you're like me who received Christ for a chance to get the good life in this world; to be at the heart of where it's happening; at the very centre of civilian life; have comforts, and lie on bed of roses, you're in for a rude awakening.

"No soldier in active service gets entangled in the affairs of this life; [he avoids them] so that he may please the One who enlisted him as a soldier."-2 Timothy 2:4.
Meaning, no child of GOD who wants Eternal life frolics with succeeding in this Satanic system, rather we live on the fringes of it (we're in the world but not of the world).
Living at the outer edges, or outskirts is where you're treated like a second class citizen; disenfranchised, denied the rights and privileges of those in the inner circle; life here is far removed from the propaganda of the 'good life' we've been indoctrinated into all our lives, and we're ok with it because we know that to live in this world is to be behind enemy lines.- John 15:19, Romans 12:2, James 4:4, Philippians 3:20.

It's a blessing in disguise; the less you have to lose on a sinking ship the better for you. "So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content."-1 Timothy 6:8.

“Only an evil, and adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign."- Matthew 12:39, Matthew 16:4.
Look around you, people are desperate for miracles, signs and wonders to do the things GOD wants to use HIS CHARACTER in us to do, hence many have become victims of the lawless one.
Why? Satan too has powers, but he doesn't have CHARACTER.

A Christian should live on CHARACTER which is the FRUIT of our personal obedience to GOD. MIRACLES are for ministry, serving others.
Jesus was the greatest miracle worker yet He went hungry rather than turn stone to bread; Jesus was the owner of the universe who had no place to lay His head; the most Powerful man who was spat on, shamed, beaten, brutalised, and murdered. His Legacy, OBEDIENCE.

No, Jesus' most distinguished attributes was not His Supernatural Powers, it was His CHARACTER.

We cannot see or touch GRAVITY, it's proven by its effect; We're not floating in space, this is the *substance* or the *evidence* that gravity is real.
We cannot see AIR, but it's all around us, and *proven* when we breathe, we feel it on our faces, and see it as the trees rustle on windy days. We cannot see JOY, but it's unmistakable at work.

Saying I love you, or I have faith in you is not enough, *intangibles* must be *proven* by their *characters*. Jesus said in Matthew 11:19, “Wisdom is proved right by her deeds/ is justified by her children.” It's the same message Hebrews 11 is telling us about faith; intangibles like WISDOM, LOVE, PATIENCE, HOPE, and TRUST (FAITH) etc which by nature doesn't have physical presence MUST be proven or they're useless, spiritual realities must have evidence or they're a waste of time.

So what was the proof that Abraham trusted GOD? Did he part the red sea, or turn stone to bread? NO! He trusted GOD even when it didn't make sense to trust GOD; took a knife to his son's throat at the LORD' s command.
What was the evidence that Joseph trusted GOD who allowed him to be sold into slavery by his brothers? He refused to sleep with his master's wife, went to jail, and mourned his loss by continuing to trust GOD.
What was the evidence that Jesus trusted His FATHER? He submitted to HIS Will even when it meant a shameful, brutal death at Calvary.
Even men with supernatural powers like Moses, Elijah, Samson etc, rose and fell on the strength of their character.
Without Character our faith is a waste of time and vexation of spirit.

I found that beyond petitions and supplications, beyond fastings, and all the other forms of prayers, I *need* STRONG DESIRE for the Truth. It's the HOW to cooperate with the Holy Spirit in my life.

Imagine that I got a gift check of a million Naira, but I will have to take a taxi to the bank and cash the check. My trip to the bank however inconvenient is not work done for the money, it is me cooperating with the process that would eventually make me benefit from something I didn't work for.
Imagine that the Holy Spirit is a Chef, He does all the labour in cooking me a seven star intercontinental dish, all I need to do is get my meal and eat. Getting my meal and eating is NOT work to produce the food, but it is effort necessary to benefit from the food. This is what STRONG DESIRE FOR THE TRUTH is to the workings of the Holy Spirit in a believers life.

I can't be struggling with greed, and be offering to keep our groups money.
I can't be wrestling with immorality, and still be cool, surrounded by immoral materials and carnal people.
I can't be battling chronic lying, yet remain unaccountable.
If I don't have STRONG DESIRE for what the Holy Spirit is doing, STRONG DESIRE enough to make painful life altering decisions, I will be the PRINCIPALITY against my own Salvation.

Psalm 110:3," Thy people shall be *WILLING* in the day of Thy power."

If you have faith in a chair you will sit on it; if you have faith in a road you will walk on it; if you have faith in a drink you will take a sip. So you cannot have faith in GOD and not have character (James 2:14-26); if Faith does not produce CHARACTER, YOU ARE NOT SAVED. And no, it doesn't matter how liked you are in society, or how versed you are in the Bible, or how long you can pray in gibberish.

CHARACTER is not a substitute for prayers (there are all types of prayers.-Ephesians 6:18), CHARACTER is the BEST. Emphasis on Faith (trust) in GOD produced obedience which produces the Fruit of the Holy Spirit.-Galatians 5:22-23. For as many as are led by the Spirit of GOD , they are the sons of GOD.-Romans 8:14.
If He isn't leading you, your claim to sonship is as real as SKIBOBOSKIBOBO BOBOBO SKIBOBOSKIBOBO.

Sadly because many people don't know that CHARACTER is the MAJOR work GOD wants to do in our lives now, they focus on signs and miracles, and are disappointed in GOD for the same situations HE is using to shape Jesus in us.

If you think GOD overlooked David's infidelity and murder, forgetting where GOD punished him for the crimes even after David repented;
Or you think GOD overlooked Abraham's failings, although GOD sent his beloved Ismael away from him, and had thirteen years without as much as a remark to Abraham;
Or you conveniently omitted from your hermeneutics how GOD punished Moses by not letting him enter the promised land, so that you can justify moral laxity, you have only exposed the wickedness of your heart.

Yes, if the Lord marks iniquity NONE shall stand, but this is the more reason why we should have the extra boost to NOT continue to indulge a lifestyle that dishonours such a Merciful GOD, or shall we continue in sin and expect Grace to abound? NO!

DO NOT BE DECEIVED, we're not saved by our good character, but we're saved to have good character. If you don't have the character of the Holy Spirit, you're not even a child of GOD, to say the least. Since it is by our character that we're known, either as children of GOD, or Satan's. There are a lot of Satan's children in the churches today, some claiming to have been saved for years; They serve in various capacities in their local assemblies but don't have love, joy, peace, gentleness, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and Self-control. They don't only exhibit the character of the flesh, they're quite ok with continuing in sin. The prayers of these ones is an abomination to GOD.-1 Peter 3:12.

Character doesn't just reduce unnecessary dramas in our lives, it positions us for GOD' s favour, just as lack of character brings more and more dramas, and disfavour. I know folks whose theology will be turned upside down if they read this, that our prayers are USELESS if we lack character.

Hence the Bible says, "Add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, YOU WILL BE NEITHER BARREN NOR UNFRUITFUL in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins."-1 Peter 1:5-9.

All of the above virtues points to the FRUIT (character) of the Holy Spirit. Without which our spirituality, prayer, gifts etc are vanities upon vanities, mere vexation of spirit.

Spiritual Warfare is not so much about prayering for long hours unend, as it is about CHARACTER.-1 Timothy 6:9-12.
Our greatest weapon to fight spiritual wickedness as believers is CHARACTER;

Put on the full Armour of GOD; from the breast-plate of Righteousness, to the shield of Faith, belt of Truth, and sandals of Peace, or perseverance etc (Ephesians 6:11-18), all the Arsenal in the Armory of GOD points to the FRUIT (CHARACTER) of the Holy Spirit.
A spiritual person is led by the Holy Spirit 24/7, this is the best warfare strategy; OBEDIENCE which bears FRUIT, it is how you PRAY WITHOUT CEASING (1 Thessalonians 5:17); CHARACTER.

So don't let a foul mouthed, moral delinquent, carnal minded person tell you they're a prayer warrior simply because they can pray for hours. Praying for long hours with many words is acting in disobedience to Christ (Matthew 6:7).
Always look for character in any spiritual warrior.
