Public outrage and reporters seeking accountability from officials about a recent fire incident in Washington DC where a 911 call took 4 minutes to dispatch firefighters to fire that killed two people. The DC guidelines state that a 911 call should be processed within 90 seconds, and the first responding fire engine, staffed by 4 firefighters should arrive within a response time of 5 minutes and 20 seconds. This is a stark contrast to Kathmandu fire incidents where the first fire engine, even during the traffic free night hours takes over 40 minutes to arrive. The question that the public in Kathmandu should ask is why do neither media, nor Government officials or business owners are holding anyone to account.
