Where music, conversation and community come together. 💜🥁

Over the weekend, the Wellness Village at Downtown Line Tampines Station 🚇 was filled with laughter and smiles as we partnered with Dementia Singapore for their Memories Café programme. 🎶

Held in a safe and welcoming community space, Memories Café brings together persons living with dementia and their caregivers 👫through activities and conversations, creating opportunities to connect and spend time together meaningfully. 💕

During the session, participants explored rhythms and beats🪘through an interactive drumming experience led by DrumCircle by OneHeartBeat Pte Ltd, before winding down over a delicious lunch.

Through music and shared experiences, the session encouraged interaction, strengthened bonds and brought moments of joy at a comfortable pace for all. 🫶

Beyond connecting journeys, we hope our stations can also bring people together through dedicated communal spaces like the Wellness Village, adding even more vibrancy to our public transport network!

It’s not every day you see a father and son working in the same company; one behind the wheel and the other supporting operations on the ground. 🚌

For 55-year-old Senior Bus Captain Chew Han Kok, serving commuters has taken on an even deeper meaning since his son, Koon Yan, joined SBS Transit as an Assistant Interchange Supervisor at Serangoon Interchange. 🚏

Growing up, Koon Yan was the more introverted child in the family. Hoping to help him step out of his comfort zone, Han Kok encouraged Koon Yan to join SBS Transit. “Interacting with Bus Captains and commuters has now made him more confident in connecting with others,” he shared proudly. 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦

Han Kok, who is also the Union Chairman of Sengkang West Bus Depot, often imparts important lessons on communication, empathy and looking out for others with both his sons, Koon Yan and his elder brother Koon Hao, an engineer at PSA Singapore. ❤️

At home, staying connected is just as important. Despite busy work schedules, the family makes it a point to gather for home-cooked dinners prepared by Han Kok’s wife, Siew Fong, and to go on a family holiday together every year. ✈️

This Father’s Day, they will celebrate with a meal out and shopping together. But for Han Kok, the best gift is simple. “I don’t ask for presents or money. Hearing "Happy Father’s Day" is already the best gift for me!” 😁

Let’s appreciate Han Kok and all the superhero dads out there, both at work and at home. Happy Father’s Day! ✨

Building a more dementia-friendly community starts with greater understanding and empathy from the people around us. 🌟

Earlier this month, we participated in Radin Mas Constituency’s Intergenerational Day event. There, we engaged residents on some of the challenges that persons living with dementia may face when navigating our public transport system. Through simple games and quizzes, we sparked conversations and raised awareness on how we can better support them.

These efforts complement our newly launched initiative at 🚌 Bukit Merah Interchange, which enhances wayfinding support and helps commuters with dementia travel more confidently and independently.

Shoutout to our 🥰🫡 Caring Commuter Champions — Sarah and Eunice from Singapore Polytechnic, and Ethan and Crystal from Ngee Ann Secondary School — who engaged the residents and spread dementia awareness. We're glad they were able to put their learning into action! 🌻

We're heartened by the strong support from residents and community partners, and remain committed to making public transport more inclusive and accessible for all. 💕

🛍️ “Within two hours, your staff located my bag and contacted me to pick it up.” 🙏

For most people, discovering that they had misplaced something just hours before a flight would be a heart-sinking moment. 😰 That was the situation Serena found herself in when she realised her shopping bag was left on board a Service 32 bus — just four hours before she was due to leave for the airport. Anxious but hopeful, Serena called our team for help.

Assistant Interchange Supervisor Salim Bin Alias answered her call and immediately sprang into action. 🔍 With a little detective work, he retraced her journey and narrowed the search to a few buses and personally waited for them to return to Buona Vista Terminal after completing their trips.

Salim's efforts paid off. Bus Captain Abdul Lathiff B Parek found the lost shopping bag on his bus and promptly handed it over. Salim immediately called Serena to share the good news, and her husband came down to retrieve it. Feeling touched, the couple later mailed a heartfelt letter of appreciation to thank our staff for their help.

“I always feel happy when passengers are reunited with their belongings,” said Salim. “Knowing that we have helped ease someone's worries makes the effort worthwhile.”

The bag may have contained only a T-shirt, but for the couple, it meant one less worry before their flight home and a lasting impression of Singapore's hospitality. Thank you, Salim and Lathiff, for showing what service from the heart looks like. 🚌❤️
