That loud buzzing sound you hear during the hot season comes from cicadas.
Cicadas are insects that live underground for most of their lives. They can stay under the soil for several years, slowly growing before coming out during the summer. When they finally emerge, you often see them on tree trunks.
The sound you hear is actually the male cicadas singing. They make this loud noise to attract female cicadas for mating. Their sound is one of the most recognizable natural sounds of summer in many countries, especially in warm places like Thailand.
So when you hear that buzzing in the trees, it’s not just noise — it’s nature’s summer soundtrack.
