✨ 2026 Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival ✨

The Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival dates back to the Qing Dynasty, originating from a tradition called “reporting safety.”
In the past, bandits often troubled the mountain villages of Pingxi. After the winter harvest, villagers would temporarily hide in the mountains. Once it was safe, those who stayed behind would release sky lanterns to signal their families to return home.
Over time, as life became more peaceful, this practice evolved into a local tradition.
People began writing wishes and blessings on the lanterns and releasing them during the Lantern Festival (the 15th day of the Lunar New Year), praying for good fortune, safety, and blessings from the heavens.
That’s why sky lanterns are also known as “Blessing Lanterns” or “Peace Lanterns.”

✨ 2026 平溪天燈節 ✨

平溪天燈節源於清道光年間的「報平安」習俗。
過去平溪山區常有盜匪出沒，村民在冬至收成後會暫時躲入山中，待情勢安全後，由留守的壯丁施放天燈，通知親人可以返家。
隨著時局逐漸安定，這項習俗被保留下來，並演變成地方文化。
人們將祈福與心願寫在天燈上，於農曆正月十五元宵節施放，祈求一年平安順遂，也希望上天眾神庇佑闔家平安，因此天燈又被稱為「祈福燈」或「平安燈」。
