Bertha's Adventures Trucking since 1990 I've been trucking since 1990 and I've been an owner/operator for almost 20 years. I'm not much of a talker but I don't mind listening.

I've pulled dry van and done almost 10 years of flatbedding. I acquired Bertha in 2016 after almost 23 years of wishing for a big bunk. She's definitely been a challenge and a learning experience. Besides trucking, I love to write fiction, have a small graphic design shop, and an obsession with crafts of all varieties. Just don't ask my opinion if you truly aren't up for an unfiltered reply.

We're back from the vet. Nothing's broken! 😌 The vet said his leg is hurt but not broken. What a huge relief! The vet gave me some Gabepentin to help with his food so hopefully I can get him to take it. He was so good for the vet but I felt bad because you could see in his face he was scared. 🥺

Crisco is still limping. I found a local vet so he's being seen. It can't be soon enough. 🥺 Ish now follows me everywhere I go. And he will start yowling
the instant I leave the hotel room or he can't find me. I know I'll feel better when they're home and safe.

I contacted insurance to see to Bertha. I'm just waiting now. I'm still here. I'm not good at waiting. It gives me time to think...

Crisco is limping! He won't put any weight on his right front paw! And carries it off the ground and bent. 😭

I tried to check and he let's me but he doesn't do anything so I don't know what's wrong! I'm waiting for the SPCA to open and my vet back home to open so I can find out what to do.

I know cats hide pain so I think he didn't show he was hurt until he felt safe back with me. He loves to ride on the dash and that's where he was when the accident happened.

Keep your fingers crossed for him please!

I just had to share because I will never be able to find any words to describe the worry I've been through since I went to the ER to be checked out which meant trusting complete strangers with my Chonks.

I am beyond thankful for the Albemarle county Sherif who rescued the Chonks from their hiding spot and took them to Charlottesville SPCA. They kept the boys safe and gave them treats. (but they didn't eat 🥺) and they tried to call me but the phone number wasn't working so they took pictures and sent me an email. And even thinking that was a possibility I within to check! I finally through with the help of Max Becraft !! Thank you!!

And thank you to the Charlottesville SPCA from the bottom my heart! I won't forget your kindness!

The Chonks have both had water and visited the litterbox and in a bit I'll feed them.

I also went to the tow yard to pick up things for me and the Chonks and I got more pictures. I'll share those in a bit. Im not an insurance adjuster but im hopeful Miss Bertha can be saved. *crosses fingers and toes hard*

I did get a chance to talk to the officer again and he said both of the other drivers 'are going to be fine'. I'm keeping them in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm feeling so many things right now. Lost mostly. I miss having the Chonks nearby but they're in the SPCA. I know they're safe but I'm so scared that they're scared. It's not like you can explain to them.

I made it to the hotel. It seems nice. The doctors say nothing's broken or dislocated on my left hand but it sure hurts to move my fingers. The right looks like I tried to punch something. Which is kinda weird because I don't remember hitting ir on anything.

I also don't want to fall asleep. I really don't...

I don't even know where to start this post...

I guess like my mom always said to do... with "I'm ok...but..."

Im currently in an emergency room being looked o er. The Chonk Brothers were taken to the SPCA to be looked over too.

Im honestly at a loss as I sit here. Bertha's front end is destroyed. The new leaf springs and all the work I had done two weeks ago is...no more.

All I can say is I kept it upright...

I don't know if the other people made it. The police said they're fine but I saw the cars... I'm praying hard he wasn't lying to me because I saw what was left of the vehicles.....

When people say everything can change in an instant, believe them.

You think you're prepared when you're driving. Scanning your environment for potential problems. Doing the things truckers do to be safe out here on the road.

And then everything changed. In the blink of an eye.

The car came through the median. The car that was passing me cut me off trying to avoid it but ended up broadsiding him in the middle of both lanes about a car length in front of me and with no where to go I slammed into both of them... Bertha veered towards to right and a steep ditch pushing them and then something snapped and she je**ed left sending us across both lanes and down into the center median and up the other side. We came to rest smoke pouring from the hood on the edge of the inside berm of oncoming traffic. If I'd have been going faster than my normal 59 phone we wouldn't have stopped...

I'm sitting here getting checked out, my mind running a million miles a minute and all I can see in my head is what was left of those cars....

And because it took me an ungodly amount of time to cross both the George Washington Bridge -AND- the Throggsneck Bridge, I ran out of hours. So now I'll be stuck here all night, getting up at an ungodly hour to get out of here, and...AND!

It's crowded. It's dirty. The roads are absolute crap. And yet there are too many people here.
