About the Campus Bus System
This is the page for the University of Michigan Campus Bus System. Although unofficial (Not sanctioned by or affiliated with the University of Michigan;) the page contains factual information about the University of Michigan Campus Bus System, that includes service updates, and some History about the Campus Bus system along with miscellaneous information, and it can be found right here! A Division of Logistics, Parking & Transportation services at the University of Michigan. U-M LTP operates one of the largest University owned transit systems in the United States of America. Boasting rights include 70+ years of continuous Transit Service provided to the University Community, ridership of just under 8 million passengers during 2018 while operating one of the most modern fleets that rival most Municipally operated public transit systems in the United States.
The University Campus Bus System fleet consists of 55 Hybrid and Clean Diesel Low Floor Buses, 2 Para Transit Lift equipped mini buses, and 5 multi use mini vans. The Campus Bus System operates 12 Line Haul Routes that serve South, Central, North, Medical, and East Campus 21+ hours per day, 7 days per week, 360 days per year. Additionally, we provide Para Transit services, “on call” Uber type services, and Charter bus service. The Campus Bus System is a “Fare Free” Transit service that is open to everyone regardless of your affiliation with the University of Michigan.
The Campus Bus System employs 72 Full Time, 3 Part Time, and 42+ Student/ Temporary Transit Coach Operators. Day to day Transit operations are managed by 9 Full Time Transit Supervisors. Two “On Campus” bus garages are required to facilitate operations; KIPKE located on South Campus near the “Big House” is the main facility. BAXTER; located on North Campus is a smaller facility that rounds out our Operations. In Fall of 2020, ground is to be broken on North Campus for our “State of the Art” new Bus Garage that will house the entire fleet under one roof, allow for expanded services with additional Routes; and open the door for utilization of Electric buses, and badly needed 60’ articulated Buses!
