Brad, Bill, and Josh (From R-L) recently completed the Art Loeb. The weather earlier in May was perfect for Spring hiking and they were able to take advantage of it. Last year, Brad’s attempt to hike the trail was thwarted by the Rattlesnake fire, but good things came to those who wait! Josh brought his son out last season and came back for round 2 with his peers.

Great job guys and enjoy the summer!

Kaye and her daughter, Teah, recently joined up with a couple of friends to complete the Art Loeb. They also incorporated many of the trails that connect to it making a full week of exploring the ins and outs of Pisgah. I’m sure it was a special time experiencing this together.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms out there including my own!

beckys_wanderings finally got great weather for her Art Loeb hike. For the past couple of years the rain has soured the experience, but I guess one advantage of being in a historical drought is great hiking weather!

Come on out and enjoy this sunny spring we’re having! Great job Becky 👍

Lauren recently knocked out Newfound Gap to Hot Springs along the AT. Originally from New York, she migrated to Florida to work in the marine biology field which she has been apart of for roughly 30 years. She hopes to retire and move back to NewYork and hike the rest of the AT as soon as possible. Good luck Lauren and great job on the hike 👍

Michael, aka “Swimmer”, set out from the southern terminus on the Benton MacKaye Trail recently. He’s completed the AT, AZT, and CT. After retiring from the postal service in Ozark, AL, he started backpacking and continues to do so as often as possible!

Mitch, aka Copper, set out SOBO on the BMT recently as well. He works in the tech industry and is based out of Norman, OK. After finishing, he mentioned he only saw 7 other hikers in nearly 300 miles reinforcing that this trail provides the solitude you maybe looking for!

Scott and his kids recently came out on their spring break and completed the Art Loeb. Scott’s an engineer for Duke out of Wilmington, NC, grew up in Colorado, and now loves the coastal NC life. His kids are tough and are able to do pretty big days on trail. Great job guys!

Marlon and Parth also came down for Spring Break to hike the Art Loeb. They’re from West Chicago and found the new Art Loeb Trail Project very helpful on their journey!

Happy Trails Y’all

He’s back! Bruce “Wh**ey” from Edelstein, IL picked up where he left off on the AT covering ground from Hughes Gap to Dennis Cove Road.

Once upon a time he made his living as a golf course maintenance superintendent and now he travels with his wife throughout the year going to visit his kids, grandkids, and the beach. During college, Bruce played golf for the Mississippi State Bulldogs and he continues to play the game as much as he can in retirement.

One thing that will never be retired is his trusty external frame pack with its duct tape straps and hip belt pockets. He proves that it ain’t the gear that walks up the mountains, it’s the person!

Never change Wh**ey, never change!

Scotty and his pals from Columbia, SC recently came up to hike the Art Loeb northbound. They were out during the Black Balsam fire and were able to navigate safely around it after having to wait a little bit for the trail to open up.

Chris is a retired guidance counselor from just outside of Greenville SC. He’s hiked this one multiple times and he’s fast and efficient with a 17lb pack. He’s also newlywed and enjoying married life and retirement simultaneously!

Happy Trails y’all!

Joey Figueroa set out from Sam’s Gap recently on his way to Damascus to pickup where he left off from last year. He’s already completed Virginia and most of the Mid Atlantic states. Jose has been section hiking since 2011 and he’s getting closer to accomplishing his goal. He’s a joy to be around and his positive energy is infectious and comes from a place of deep faith.

I really respect the section hiker that year after year goes through the pain of starting the hike all over again without “trail legs”. They keep coming back over and over sacrificing their precious time off from work that could be spent in other ways, but they know the value of how being on trail makes them feel.

Good work Joey! Soon enough you’ll be a 2,000 miler.
