While getting a violation for a light being out might seem like nothing, it isn’t.

All those tiny little violations add up - and while you most likely didn’t even get fined for it, eventually you will.

Insurance companies look at your CSA safety scores and that has a lot to do with what your rates will be.

Higher the score, Higher the rates!

And every time you get a pesky violation, your CSA score goes up, which means SO DOES YOUR INSURANCE PAYMENTS.

In order to stay in business and keep rates low,
you need to be as perfect as you can.

Every single avoidable violation needs to be avoided.

Never walk past anything that is a violation. If you see it - you need to stop and immediately fix it.

Because sometimes you will do a pretrip or a saftey check and two min down the road a light goes out, or a tire loses air pressure, or a hub seal starts leaking.

You get inspected and there was really nothing you could do, because that issue wasn’t there earlier.

So when you can, you need to be perfect

Load Board Setup - how to make sure you don’t miss any available loads to you. What 90% of people miss!!

Stop filtering away results by putting a specific length.

I always filter for 4k lbs over what I’m willing to carry so I see every available load.

Don’t select just “hotshot” - select all the options I select in the video.

So many loads I book are posted for a flat bed & 48’.

I call on every load to see what the reality of the load is, not just what it’s posted for.

Tony’s Pro Tip: When you are picking up in the AM or dropping off in the AM, call your shippers/receivers to see if you are able to park onsite.

We all know that truck stops fill up fast, especially in the big cities.

When you roll in late, can’t find a spot, and then are forced to drive around for an extra hour trying to find somewhere to park.

And you may end up parking really far away from your shipper/receiver because that is the closest you could find, which means tomorrow AM you have to use even more of your clock to get to your destination.

This burns your clock and can take hours off your available drive time every week.

A trick we use is to call the shippers and receivers during business hours (of course) and ask if we are able to park onsite, which will enable us to load/unload very first thing in the morning.

& utilize our clock to the best of our abilities

Parking onsite helps you conserve as much of your clock as possible, get loaded or unloaded sooner, and stay available during shipping hours.

Before parking onsite - grab dinner, shower, anything you need at the truck-stop, and then head to the shipper or receiver (always with prior permission).

They will not always allow you to do this. But it does not hurt for you to ask, and then base your day around ending there at night.

Preserving your clock time and being efficient is the best way to stay profitable.

We do this as much as we can, and it always helps us get a jumpstart on the next day.
