Safety Blitz May 14th- May 16th is fast approaching!

For drivers, the 2024 focus will be on:
1. Presence or use of controlled substances and alcohol.
The Roadcheck inspections will look for physical and behavioral evidence of controlled substances and alcohol and include a query of the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
2. Tractor protection systems
Inspectors will ask drivers to release all brakes by pressing dash valves, then listen and feel for leaks from air lines. The anti-bleed back valve, trailer supply valve, and trailer protection valve must be in working condition.

Truckers NOT exempt from Biden vaccine mandate rule going into effect in January 2022. Under the rule, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is issuing an emergency temporary standard (ETS) for private sector employers with 100 or more employees. Under that rule, workers must show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or submit to weekly testing, effective January 4. Employers are not required to pay for testing in most circumstances. Also under the rule, all unvaccinated workers must begin wearing masks by December 5, 2021.

Most of the 52,000 drivers who lost their jobs in 2020 due to drug and alcohol violations have not completed their return-to-work procedure, says a year-end report on the testing database. The numbers back up industry concerns that FMCSA’s Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse is putting a dent in the driver labor pool.

For three months, all of America realized how vital truck drivers are to our daily lives. Truck drivers were finally getting the recognition they deserve. Sadly, despite the recognition, truck drivers are still treated badly.
