Berea Home Village

Berea Home Village Not for profit organization with a mission to enhance the lives of older Bereans living at home This becomes challenging and often impractical, as we age.

It's really true that there's no place like home, and for those of us who call Berea home, there is a deep and abiding affection for this special community. Many of us desire to stay rooted in Berea for the rest of our lives. Berea Home Village offers people an affordable option for staying in their own homes when transportation and household chores become difficult - the point at which many older

people have to leave their familiar surroundings. This innovative solution is perfect for those who wish to remain active, independent, and socially connected to their community. Villages are unique, locally determined communities where members can stay in their homes as long as possible. Members can be homeowners, renters, people sharing housing, or living with family. Members are supported by a network of caring volunteers who are trained. Members are supported by village recommended paid service providers. Membership is affordable ($300 per year/individual and $500 per year/household) and provides a social community, as well as practical services to meet changing needs. Some of the Member Services include:
Transportation to appointments and events
Assistance with errands
Phone check-in calls
Home safety/fall risk/emergency preparedness review
Limited technical assistance with computer, phone, television
Health and in-home care assessment
Social activities that are accessible and enriching
Visiting

The weather held out for most of the weekend, allowing our community to come together for two wonderful evenings of music and celebration with AMP Berea!
Friday's concert celebrated Pride Month, while Sunday's concert honored Juneteenth. Families enjoyed live music, open green space, local food trucks, and opportunities to connect with organizations that provide valuable resources throughout our community. Smitty's Southern Style BBQ also provided free meals for youth ages 18 and under through the Berea Kids Eat Summer program.
These events remind us of the power of music to bring people together. Whether reconnecting with friends, meeting new neighbors, or simply enjoying a shared experience, attendees helped create a welcoming atmosphere centered on community, connection, and belonging.
As part of the Music & Meaning concert series, we are also gathering feedback through participant surveys to better understand how arts and community engagement support social connection and well-being, particularly among older Bereans who may experience loneliness or social isolation. The information shared helps us measure the impact of these events and continue creating meaningful opportunities for people to connect.
Thank you to AMP Berea, Berea Kids Eat Summer, Smitty's BBQ, our food truck vendors, community organizations, musicians, volunteers, and everyone who attended and completed a survey. Your participation helps strengthen our community and supports future Music & Meaning programming.
The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, supports AMP Berea with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. This project is funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Kentucky Arts Council.

Thank you for making these events a success. We look forward to seeing you at future Music & Meaning concerts this summer!

What a wonderful Saturday at Glades Community Garden!
Families, friends, and neighbors gathered to enjoy live Appalachian folk and Americana music from Jeri Katherine Howell and her band, explore hands-on music making with music therapist Cecilia Stair, and connect with one another in a beautiful community setting.
The event also marked the kickoff of Berea Kids Eat Summer meal distribution, providing free meals for children and youth 18 and under. We are grateful to Alfalfa for helping ensure families had access to healthy food while enjoying the concert and community activities.
This event was part of the Music & Meaning concert series, which explores how arts and community engagement can strengthen social connection and improve well-being. Through participant surveys, we are gathering valuable feedback about how these events impact community members, particularly older Bereans who may experience loneliness or social isolation. The information shared helps us better understand how music, shared experiences, and welcoming community spaces contribute to a stronger sense of belonging and connection.
Throughout the morning, attendees enjoyed opportunities to visit with friends, meet new people, and spend time together in a relaxed and inclusive environment. These moments of connection are important in helping build a healthier, more engaged community where everyone feels welcomed and valued.
Events like this remind us of the power of partnerships in communities. Thank you to AMP Berea, Berea Kids Eat, Glades Community Garden, Alfalfa, Bumble Bites, our musicians, volunteers, and everyone who attended and completed a survey. Your participation helps us continue creating meaningful experiences that bring people together.
The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, supports AMP Berea with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. This project was funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Kentucky Arts Council.
Thank you for making this event a success. We look forward to seeing you at future Music & Meaning events!
