The 4th of July is only two days away and America’s highways and interstates are going to be crowded. Sharing the road with truckers during a busy holiday weekend requires extra caution and awareness to ensure everyone's safety. Here are some tips to help you navigate the roads safely alongside large trucks:
-Following Distance: Keep a safe following distance behind trucks. Large trucks require more time to stop, so ensure there is ample space.
-Passing: When passing a truck, do so quickly and safely. Avoid lingering in the truck's blind spots (known as "no-zones").
-Signals: Use your turn signals well in advance when merging or changing lanes near a truck.
-Speed: Make sure you have enough speed to pass the truck safely and return to the lane without cutting too closely in front of the truck.
-Front and Rear: Avoid driving too closely in front of or behind trucks. If you can't see the truck driver in the truck's side mirrors, the driver likely can't see you.
-Sides: Be aware that trucks have large blind spots on both sides. Stay out of these no-zones when possible.
-Use Headlights Wisely: Flash your headlights to signal that it is safe for a truck to merge in front of you.
Have a wonderful 4th of July, America!
