FMCSA just launched a major change to how medical certifications are handled for commercial drivers. The new rule, which took effect June 23, requires certified medical examiners to submit exam results electronically. This move replaces outdated paper forms that were easier to lose, forge, or mishandle.
FMCSA says the digital system may reduce fraud, prevent errors, and give law enforcement faster access to medical status during inspections. So far, 37 states are fully compliant, with more expected soon.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy says the system will make life easier for honest truckers and harder for bad actors. FMCSA believes this is a big step forward for safety and oversight.
