A 500-mile load can be straightforward. Another 500-mile load can take a very different amount of time to complete.

The difference may be everything around those loaded miles 📍 how far the truck is from pickup, when the appointments are scheduled, how long loading takes, and how the trip fits into the driver’s available hours.

That’s why mileage alone doesn’t describe the workload behind a trip ⏳

The route may say 500 miles. The schedule determines what those 500 miles look like on the road 🛣️

Labor Day may slow things down, but the road keeps moving.

While many are enjoying the long weekend, truck drivers are still out there — covering miles, making deliveries, and keeping freight moving across the country.

To everyone spending Labor Day behind the wheel: stay safe and drive smart.

Backing into a dock gets easier when you know exactly what’s around you before you start.

👀 Walk the area first. Check for poles, low barriers, parked equipment, uneven pavement, and anything outside your mirrors.
📏 Look at the dock angle. Not every dock is straight or level. Knowing the approach before backing in helps avoid unnecessary corrections.
🚧 Watch the trailer swing. The tractor may clear an obstacle while the trailer doesn’t.
💡 Don’t rush because someone is waiting. A few extra seconds to reset is always better than forcing a bad angle.
A clean setup before backing usually saves more time than trying to fix a bad one halfway in.

⚠️ Labor Day weekend means extra cargo theft risk.

If you’re hauling September 4–7, a few extra checks can help protect the load:

📍 Confirm pickup and delivery hours
🔒 Use secured, well-lit parking when possible
🚛 Avoid leaving a loaded trailer unattended
📲 Double-check unexpected changes to load instructions

Security experts also recommend driving about 200 miles after pickup before making your first stop, when possible. Thieves may follow trucks from pickup locations and wait for the first opportunity to target the load.

If something about the pickup, delivery or load instructions changes unexpectedly, verify it before moving forward.

📍 Not checking appointment details before arrival
Wrong entrance, receiving hours, or missing instructions can easily turn into extra waiting.

⛽ Waiting too long to fuel
The cheapest stop isn’t always the best one if it means a detour, crowded pumps, or losing time later.

🅿️ Leaving parking until the last minute
Finding a safe spot gets much harder late in the day, especially around major freight areas.

Good time management on the road is often less about driving faster and more about avoiding small delays before they pile up.

A messy cab turns small tasks into wasted time 🕐

Keep the things you use most within easy reach:
✔️ documents and permits in one place
✔️ chargers and cables organized
✔️ work gloves, flashlight and safety gear easy to grab
✔️ water and snacks stocked before the trip
✔️ bedding and personal items separated from work gear

A simple setup makes stops, inspections and long days on the road easier to manage.

People see the truck on the highway. They don’t always see everything that comes with it. Early starts. Traffic. Weather. Inspections. Tight schedules. Hours of planning and staying focused mile after mile.

Driving the truck is one part of the job. Keeping everything moving safely and on schedule takes much more.
Respect to the drivers who do it every day 🙏

🔸 Stay clear of restricted areas and emergency operations
🔸 Keep dispatch updated if conditions affect your route

Stay alert and check official local updates before entering affected areas.

🚨 Brake Safety Week starts August 23.

From Aug. 23–29, inspectors across the U.S., Canada and Mexico will increase commercial vehicle brake inspections, with extra attention on brake drums and rotors.

Last year:
🔸15,175 trucks inspected
🔸2,296 placed OOS for brake violations
🔸That’s a 15.1% brake-related OOS rate

⚠️ Before hitting the road, pay extra attention to drums, rotors and the full brake system during your pre-trip. Cracks, broken components, severe rust, excessive wear or other critical brake defects can put the truck out of service until repairs are completed.

Inspection-ready before the blitz starts.
