Good Morning FB friends,

Today’s safety message shows a crash dummy and says, “I’m designed for accidents… you’re not”.

Crash test dummies have been the subject of public service announcements, cartoons, parodies, and even the name of a band. Real crash test dummies, however, are true lifesavers as an integral part of automotive crash tests. Even though cars get a little safer each year, and fatality rates are declining, car crashes are still one of the leading causes of death and injury in the United States.

The dummy's job is to simulate a human being during a crash while collecting data that would not be possible to collect from a human occupant. All frontal crash tests in the United States are conducted using the same type of dummy, the Hybrid III dummy. This guarantees consistent results. A dummy is built from materials that mimic the physiology of the human body. For example, it has a spine made from alternating layers of metal discs and rubber pads.

Perhaps more information than you wanted to know about crash dummies, but knowledge is power when it comes to safety.

Remember, they’re designed for accidents, you’re not.

Good Morning FB Family,

Today’s Safety Message talks about how ignoring safety can result in singing the blues, courtesy of Miss Billie Holiday.

Billie Holiday was a jazz musician and singer-songwriter with a career spanning nearly thirty years. Holiday was known for her vocal delivery and improvisation skills, which made up for her limited range and lack of formal music education. While there were other jazz singers with
equal talent, Billie Holiday had a voice that captured the attention of her audience.

Much of Holiday's material has been rereleased since her death, and she is considered a legendary performer with an ongoing influence on American music.

Don’t risk having to sing the blues by ignoring safety.

Good Morning FB Family,

Today’s safety message says, “Attention. Think And Drive. A second is all it takes”.

Time is an interesting concept because you can use it to gauge all manner of things. In 100 years what will have happened? In 100 days what will have happened? In a single second, what will have happened? We decided to look all around the world in order to take a measure of some of the crazy things that occur every single second. Some of these facts will surprise you and others will shock you. The next time you make an action, any action, just think about how many people around the world are doing the same thing at the exact same time.

Listed below are random things that happen every single second.

• 2.8 million emails are sent.
• A snail “walks” 1 centimeter.
• 10,450 cans of Coca Cola are consumed.
• 350 slices of pizza are eaten worldwide.
• 60 lipsticks are manufactured .
• Five babies are born around the world.
• 41,000 status updates are posted to Facebook.
• Americans consume 1,500 bottles of water.
• Lightning will strike the ground 100 times.
• Over 100,000 chemical reactions will happen in your body.
• Someone will have an accident in a vehicle.
The official definition of one second is the time that elapses during 9,192,631,770 cycles of the radiation produced by the transition between two levels of the cesium 133 atoms.
In MV operator terms, it’s the amount of time necessary to get into an accident unless you pay attention. Think and Drive – A Second Is All It Takes.

Hello FB Friends,

MV Provides Freedom, with an emphasis on Safely.

Today’s safety message says, “It’s so important to tie me down correctly. I have a lot to lose if I tip.”

National data estimates about 7 million Americans rely on mobility devices to assist with mobility impairments. Mobility Device users are among the most visible members of the disability community, and they often have substantial activity restrictions and functional limitations. Recent studies in the United States suggest that individuals with activity limitations are at a significantly higher risk of injury than those without mobility impairments.

At MV, we guarantee safety by properly securing every Mobility Device. When following proper securement procedures, the most important thing to remember is don’t take shortcuts. Double-check all of your connecting points and don’t be in a hurry. Always follow the step-by-step instructions you learned in training.

Proper mobility device securement is an absolute necessity – not only for the person in the device but also for the safety of everyone else in the vehicle.

Good Morning FB Friends,

Today’s Safety Message says, “Knowing Safety isn’t enough, Practice it”. Safe work practices are a set of guidelines or "Do’s and Don’ts” on how to perform a specific task safely.

Each employee should know, understand, and follow all the safe work practices that pertain to their specific work tasks. Training should be performed in any area that the supervisor and/or employee deems appropriate to ensure competency. Training should include both theoretical and practical components.

Don’t just know it, Practice it.

Hello FB Friends!

Today’s safety message talks about slips and falls, especially on ice. The message says, “it really was icy”, and shows someone on crutches after a fall.

To avoid these accidents this winter, employees should exercise extreme caution in the months ahead.

Some simple tips to avoid injury:
• Walk slowly and deliberately and wear boots or other slip-resistant footwear.
• Do the Penguin Shuffle.
• Be prepared for black-ice formation after melting occurs.
• Exercise caution when getting in and out of vehicles. (3 points of contact)
• Watch for slippery floors when entering buildings.
• Avoid carrying items. Keep hands empty so arms are free to move for stabilization.
If you know there is a possibility of icy conditions, or see accumulated snow in your path, use extreme caution and common sense. Don’t find yourself saying, “it really was icy”.
