There are many things that happen throughout the course of a day for an over the road “OTR” truck driver as they do their jobs by making deliveries to keep America moving. But what many people do not understand, is the facts of every OTR driver’s day. Some of those facts are,
• Drivers put on an average of 500 miles a day. Most people that go home every night, drive that going back and forth to work over two (2) weeks.
• Drivers drive about 11,000 – 13,000+ miles a month. Most people that go home every night, drive that in a year.
• Although OTR drivers put on ten (10) times the miles than an average personal size vehicle they are only 20% at fault of all truck crashes with personal vehicles.

Why is that? Why can the motoring public not recognize all the good that drivers bring to America and keeping the roads safe?
While many drivers in the industry deserve recognition on a job well done, we would like to take time to recognize one of our drivers on maintaining control of his semi and himself while avoiding a collision.
James came to SAV Express over 6 years ago and has driven over 730,000 miles without any accidents or citations. James’s mild manner attitude is a big contribution to his success, and it showed on March 27, 2023, when a personal vehicle cut off another semi that was two vehicles ahead of James. As the other semi-driver had to lockup his brakes from running over the passenger vehicle, the semi-driver directly ahead of James had to make an emergency maneuver to the left and into the ditch and back up on the roadway. All the while James kept his normal calm disposure and safely slowed his vehicle without diverting from his lane and when safe to do so, continued on his way like nothing ever happen.

James, thank you for being such a big part of our success and we are proud to have you as part of our SAV family.

A big thank you to everyone who donated to MTA’s Trucks & Toys program this year!

Whether you donated your money, or dropped off toys, you helped spread joy to thousands of kids and teens throughout the state of Minnesota who may have not otherwise received presents this season.

SAV is proud to be part of the member collection sites which helped provide gifts to over 2,000 kids at 14 charities throughout the state, including the Twin Cities Metro, Duluth, Bemidji, Fairmont and New Ulm.

Our talented HR Director Steve Morgan has been creating custom leather belts for any driver over 500K miles. Drivers can pick from 3 colors of finish, 3 colors of buckle , 3 degrees of thickness and what they want embossed (or stamped) on the leather. They also receive a matching keychain in the same color and hardware with an SAV logo on one side and their name on the other. Steve has been completing these impressive belts on his own time!! These belts will last them longer than it’ll take to get another 500K miles with us.
