As a Dreamer, deportee, and founder of New Comienzos, this story resonated deeply with me.

For many of us, being Mexican American means growing up between two countries, two cultures, and sometimes feeling like we don't fully belong in either. Yet that unique experience has also become our greatest strength.

Every day at Little L.A. in Mexico City, we work alongside deportees, returnees, Dreamers, and binational families who are transforming challenges into opportunities and proving that a new beginning is possible.

Through her neighborhood store, Consuelo Benavides has helped create a welcoming space where community members can find connection, local guidance, and a sense of belonging as they rebuild their lives in Mexico.

Her story reminds us that reintegration is not only built through programs and services, but also through everyday acts of kindness from people who choose to support their community.
