Job Summary

The Transit Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all daily operations of the City’s municipal transit department. This position ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable delivery of public transportation services while maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The Transit Supervisor provides leadership to transit staff, manages schedules and resources, addresses customer service concerns, and supports long-term planning and operational improvements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Supervise and coordinate all daily operations of the municipal transit system, demand-response, and/or paratransit services.

· Directly supervise transit drivers, and support staff; provide coaching, training, and performance evaluations.

· Develop and manage employee schedules, route assignments, and coverage to ensure uninterrupted service.

· Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Department of Transportation (DOT), OSHA, and state/local requirements.

· Monitor safety performance, investigate incidents and accidents, and implement corrective actions as needed.

· Oversee vehicle operations, including coordination of maintenance, inspections, and cleanliness in collaboration with fleet or maintenance staff.

· Respond to customer complaints, service requests, and community concerns in a professional and timely manner.

· Assist in the development and management of the transit department budget; monitor expenditures and recommend cost-saving measures.

· Maintain accurate records and reports related to ridership, staffing, incidents, and regulatory compliance.

· Participate in transit planning efforts, including service changes, and expansion initiatives.

· Ensure compliance with labor agreements, personnel policies, and City procedures.

· Serve as a liaison between the transit department, City leadership, and external partners or agencies.

· Support emergency response efforts and ensure continuity of transit services during emergencies or special events.

· Complete annual compliance report and grant application

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

· Strong leadership and supervisory skills.

· Ability to interpret and apply transportation regulations and safety standards.

· Effective communication and conflict resolution skills.

· Ability to analyze operational data and prepare clear reports.

· Proficiency in scheduling, dispatching, and operational planning.

· Strong customer service orientation.

Minimum Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED required

· Minimum of three (3) years of experience in transit operations or transportation services preferred.

· At least one (1) year in a supervisory or lead role.

· Valid driver’s license; Chauffeur license preferred or willing to obtain.

· Ability to pass background check, DOTD drug screening, and any required physical examinations.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

· Work is performed in office

· Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 20 pounds as required.

· May be required to respond to after-hour emergencies.
