What kind of support do young Detroiters need to build a future in the city?

Our June DPM Champion, Chanel Domonique, wants young people in Detroit to see real paths here through apprenticeships, local hiring and investment that puts residents first.

She believes ambition grows stronger when community supports it, which is why her work focuses on helping more Detroiters enter creative, corporate and entertainment spaces with real access behind them.

Her vision points to a Detroit where young people can stay, grow and build with the right support around them.

Born and raised on Detroit’s Eastside, Chanel Domonique has built her work around culture, mentorship and events that create more opportunities for the city.

That impact is why we’re recognizing her as our June DPM Champion. 💜

Chanel serves as Vice Chair of the Detroit Entertainment Commission, leads the Hart of Detroit Summer Festival as its Executive Director and Founder, and helped create 313 Day, Detroit’s annual cultural holiday and weekend celebration.

She has also helped bring major national platforms to Detroit while keeping local creatives, businesses and residents part of the conversation.

Through her work, Chanel creates jobs, mentors young talent and invests in neighborhood-led projects that give more Detroiters a path to participate.

Stay tuned as we share more about Chanel Domonique, her work across Detroit and the opportunities she continues to create for the city’s next generation.

Transportation professionals arrive in Detroit next week, and the People Mover is ready to be part of their downtown experience. 🚄

The 2026 ASCE T&DI Transportation Conferences will take place June 28 through July 1 at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, in partnership with the Michigan Department of Transportation.

The conference brings global conversations on transportation, infrastructure and automated transit to the heart of downtown Detroit.

If you are attending the conference, take the People Mover to Renaissance Center Station for close access to the venue before sessions begin.

After the day’s programming, board again at Renaissance Center Station to reach the Riverwalk, restaurants and other downtown stops while you’re here.

Two more days until Detroit looks up for one of summer’s best traditions. 🎆

The 2026 Ford Fireworks will light up the Detroit River this coming Monday, June 22, starting at 10 PM, with more than 10,000 pyrotechnic effects over the skyline.

If you’re heading downtown, plan your route before the crowds build. Here are a few places to consider:

📍 Hart Plaza puts you front and center near the river.

🌊 Spirit Plaza is a great place for families to gather.

🌆 Campus Martius Park gives you a great gathering place, yet farther from the riverfront.

The People Mover is FREE to ride, and the Financial District Station gives you easy access to the riverfront area before the show begins.

Arrive early, settle in and enjoy the fireworks over Detroit. ✨

Today, we honor freedom and recognize the history, culture and contributions of Black Americans, in Detroit and across the country. 💜

Their legacy continues through our local neighborhoods, original music, vibrant businesses and gathering places that keep community at the center.

As downtown Detroit celebrates history during “Black in Baseball Weekend” at Comerica Park, and culture, music and community during the Hart of Detroit Summer Festival at Hart Plaza, the Detroit People Mover is open until 1:00 am as free public transportation for all.

Heading downtown for the Detroit Fireworks on June 22? Let the Detroit People Mover help you get there!

With service running from 6:30 AM until midnight, the People Mover is one of the easiest ways to reach the celebration and avoid the parking headaches. ✨

📍 For the best access to the fireworks viewing areas at Hart Plaza and Spirit Plaza, exit at Financial District Station.

⚠️ Please note: After 2:00 PM, trains will not stop at:
• Huntington Place Station
• Millender Center Station
• Renaissance Center Station

All other stations will remain open.

🚌 Traveling by bus? Beginning at 5:00 PM, six DDOT eastbound routes will start and end service at Bricktown Station.

Arrive early, claim your spot, and enjoy one of Detroit’s most iconic summer traditions!
