Key Lime Taxi Driver Revives Overdosing Passenger with Narcan
Key Lime Taxi has proudly served the Cecil County community since 2011. Though the pandemic reduced our footprint, we continue to provide over 3,000 rides each month, offering safe, reliable transportation to those who need it most. We are also deeply committed to second chances—giving individuals with challenging pasts an opportunity to rebuild their lives.
One of those individuals is Nathan “Gage” Brooks. After spending nine years in prison battling the consequences of drug addiction, Gage has turned his life around. This July marks his first year with Key Lime Taxi, and he’s become more than just a driver—he’s become a mentor and advocate, using his own journey to guide others away from substance abuse.
Recently, all Key Lime Taxi drivers underwent Narcan training through a partnership with Kandice Henderson and Nicole Ramey of the Cecil County Health Department’s Division of Behavioral Health. Every driver now carries Narcan and is trained to use it—because addiction knows no boundaries, and you never know when you might be the first responder.
That training was put to the test on the evening of Wednesday, May 21, 2025. Gage was dispatched to take a passenger to the local ACME. From the moment she entered the vehicle, he sensed something was wrong. Upon arriving at the Acme, he found her slumped over in the back seat—unresponsive, not breathing, and without a detectable pulse.
Without hesitation, Gage sprang into action. He administered Narcan and immediately called 911. The medication worked—the passenger regained consciousness briefly before fleeing into the ACME, where she collapsed again in the produce department.
Thanks to Gage’s quick thinking, she survived and was transported to a local hospital for further treatment. We at Key Lime Taxi hope she finds healing and support on the road to recovery.
