We are truly honored to provide transportation this week for the reunion of the 692nd Tank Destroyer Battalion and, in particular, for an extraordinary American hero, Corporal Jack Myers.
We had the privilege of honoring 103-year-old WWII veteran "Jack" Myers with a tour through Civil War history in Frederick—one of our favorite groups to host year after year. Led by Greg McQuade and battlefield expert Erick, the group explored the rich history of our community while celebrating a man who helped shape our nation's history.
A veteran of the 692nd Tank Destroyer Battalion who served in the European Theater during World War II, Jack is the last known surviving veteran of his unit. At 103 years young, he still drives, dances, sings, and embraces every opportunity life has to offer. When asked why he gave up tennis only a year ago, Jack joked that he was having trouble running down the tennis ball!
One of the most moving moments of the day was witnessing Mr. Myers proudly sing The Star-Spangled Banner and God Bless America at the Francis Scott Key Monument. We were also given the rare opportunity to participate in a full es**rt through Frederick to Mt. Olivet Cemetery, graciously led by the Frederick City Police Department and the Frederick County Sheriff's Office. Seeing Frederick's Finest pay tribute to an American hero was something none of us will soon forget.
It is an honor to be a small part of this incredible event year after year and to spend time with members of the Greatest Generation whose sacrifices secured the freedoms we enjoy today.
Happy 103rd Birthday, Jack! Thank you for your service, your patriotism, and your example.
