DAT Trendlines for the week ending October 25 show these week-over-week changes:

Flatbed spot rates rose 5.29%, the biggest move of the week.
Van spot rates rose 1.95%.
Re**er spot rates slipped 1.11%.

Capacity: Load posts fell 2.41% and truck posts rose 0.94%, so capacity loosened slightly. Load-to-truck ratios dropped for all three equipment types: van -2.43%, flatbed -4.02%, re**er -6.88%.

Bottom line: There’s a little more room on the spot market this week, but rising fuel costs are adding pressure on shippers. Talk with our team about locking in capacity for the rest of Q4.

The Association of American Railroads reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending October 17, 2026.

For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 540,135 carloads and intermodal units, up 8.5 percent compared with the same week last year.

Total carloads for the week ending October 17 were 232,120 carloads, up 3.5 percent compared with the same week in 2025, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 308,015 containers and trailers, up 12.6 percent compared to 2025.

DAT statistics for week of October 11, 2026 reported spot load posts were down by 3.09% overall and spot truck posts were down by 1.55%. Dry van and re**er capacity changes opened up slightly and flatbed had a slight increase of load to truck ratios.

Average diesel prices dropped by 2.0 cents/gallon the week ending October 12. The Lower Atlantic had the largest dip at 5.4 cents/gallon. According to the EIA, the average U.S. diesel price was $6.179/gallon.
