Arrowhead Transit, established in 1974, acts as the primary provider of public transportation in the Arrowhead Region of Minnesota. As the largest rural public transportation system in the state, we are committed to delivering reliable services to residents across 10 counties in Northeastern Minnesota: Aitkin, Itasca, Koochiching, St. Our services cater to the diverse needs of our travelers, commuters, and community members. From scheduled services to our Volunteer Driver Program, we ensure convenient and accessible public transportation options for all. Our drivers undergo comprehensive training, covering defensive driving techniques. At the core of our services is Dial-A-Ride, a flexible and personalized public transportation solution for those seeking adaptability in their commute. Unlike traditional routes, Dial-A-Ride offers inner-city public transportation with the flexibility you need, providing a quick and efficient journey tailored to your requirements. Using Dial-A-Ride is straightforward. Call 1-800-862-0175, and our dispatchers will guide you through the process, gathering information about your location, desired destination, and preferred travel times. Arrowhead Transit takes pride in its extensive coverage area, spanning 10 counties and covering a vast 20,525.74 square miles. To put it into perspective, that’s approximately seven times the size of the seven-county twin cities metro in Minnesota, making us the largest rural transportation service in the state and the second-largest in the country. Covering the diverse counties of Aitkin, Carlton, Chisago, Cook, Isanti, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, Pine, and St. Louis, Arrowhead Transit has grown into the preeminent rural transportation system in the state. Arrowhead Transit is operated by Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency.

1. We’re kind of a big deal. Spanning 10 counties and 20,000+ sq. miles, we are the 2nd largest rural transit system in the entire USA.
2. Our "Why" is simple. We exist to support independent living and keep our local rural economies buzzing.
3. We have 3 ways to ride. Dial-A-Ride (curb-to-curb), scheduled Fixed Routes between towns, and Volunteer Non - Emergency Medical Transport.
4. Seniors 90+ ride FREE. (Yes, really! Pass the word to your grandparents!). We also serve students, commuters, and veterans.
5. The Arrowhead Transit App is HERE! No more calling in every time. You can now book your rides, pay digitally, and track your bus in real time right from your phone!

Known as the gateway to the Boundary Waters, Ely is famous for its Northwoods charm, local shops, and incredible attractions like the International Wolf Center and North American Bear Center! Whether you're a student at Minnesota North College – Vermilion, commuting for work, or running daily errands, Arrowhead Transit is here to get you around town.

Getting Around Ely (Dial-A-Ride)

- Hours: Monday – Friday | 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- Fare: $2.00 per ride ($20 for a 10-ride ticket book | $36 for an unlimited monthly pass)
- Schedule a Ride: Call 1-800-862-0175 (Option 1)

Regional Connections:

- Ely to Virginia: Runs Monday mornings and afternoons ($5 fare).
- Boundary Waters Loop: Connects Ely, Babbitt, Embarrass, Tower, Gilbert, and Virginia every Tuesday ($5 fare).
- Airport Connections: Connect to Range Regional Airport (HIB) in Hibbing for hassle-free travel!

All buses are ADA-compliant and equipped with wheelchair lifts.
