๐ **A Little QMAP Education: More Than Just Medications**
When you hear QMAP, you might think of someone who passes medications. While medication administration is a very important part of their role, **QMAPs are caregivers, too.** โค๏ธ
The care they provide throughout the day can have a huge impact on a resident's physical health, emotional wellbeing, and quality of life.
Helping with daily needs, making sure someone is comfortable, having a conversation, encouraging activities, or simply taking a moment to listen can mean so much to the person receiving that care.
Medication passes are also more than just handing someone their medications. They are an opportunity to check in, have a conversation, and notice changes.
**How did you sleep? How are you feeling today? Did you finish that puzzle you've been working on?**
Those small conversations provide connection and mental stimulation, which can be especially important for older adults experiencing cognitive changes.
One of the most important parts of this relationship is that **our caregivers and QMAPs often know our residents extremely well.** They are frequently the first to alert us to a possible decline in health, unusual behaviors that are not typical for an individual resident, changes in mood, changes in appetite or energy, or even when someone seems like they may be on the edge of having a rough few days.
Because they spend so much time with our residents, they notice the little things that others might miss. Those observations can help us step in early, provide additional support, and make sure our residents are getting the care they need.
**Good senior care isn't just about completing tasks. It's about knowing the person you're caring for.**
Medication matters. Care matters. Conversation matters. Observation matters. Compassion matters.
To all of our QMAPs and caregivers who show up every day with patience, kindness, and genuine care, **thank you. What you do matters.** โค๏ธ
