Steve was honored to accept the River Friendly award in behalf of S&G. From Grandpa Arthur Stewart, to John and Gilman Stewart, 3rd generation Tom Stewart, Jim Stewart and Steve Gunn, and now the 4th generation Josh Gunn, Andrew Stewart and Nick Stewart, we are committed to conservation.

Utilizing no-till, reduced tillage, cover crops we have reduced erosion and improved soil health. We have habitats attracting Bobwhite quail and Monarch butterflies. Conservation practices including filter strips, waterways and classified forests have reduced runoff by an estimated 80%.

Steve encourages new farmers to approach conservation with intentionality, to learn from others, set goals and measure progress.

Thank you Decatur County Soil & Water Conservation for this award. It is amazing to see the changes in agriculture in our lifetime, and at the same time to celebrate ongoing conservation!🇺🇸
